If only crazy people spend $20 on a scratch-off ticket, why are they the ones who win.. You can't win if you don't play. Clearly Fellini you don't play the lottery. There are people who also buy the $30 and $50 scratch-off tickets, so to a lot of people a $20 scratch-off is nothing...LOL

They don't. She'll owe a fair chunk to NY, but she doesn't need to file a FL tax return or account for a payment to FL on the NY return.

Good question with the taxes, but I think FL doesn't have any state tax so might just be NY hitting her.

The Florida Lottery announced yesterday that a New York woman had to book a return flight to claim a $1 million prize for a scratch-off ticket she bought while visiting the state.

Dagmar Schmalhaus, 57, of Queensbury, New York, had to plan a second trip to Florida to claim winnings from the Florida Lottery's 200X The Cash instant game, well worth the nearly $1 million lump sum she would receive.
