They report the final annuity value when they do the drawing, and it gets updated on USAMega when the numbers are posted. The cash value is based on the annuity cash ratio of the advertised amounts.

It's already too late to see it because Wednesday's jackpot has already been posted. Unfortunately for everybody but a ticket holder in CA the next one is just $20 million.

I'm thinking that the few months might be based on an entire run, starting from $20 million. The only problem with that is that next Saturday puts us exactly 4 months into this one (6/9 to 10/9).

Tonight finished at 696.9 (cash value of 493.9, if the interest rate didn't get changed again). A roll will start off as 735, but something over 750 seems much more likely. I feel like the person you're responding too doesn't understand how the jackpots tend to work.

I imagine the road to $1 Billion looks a bit more like this:

Drawing Mon Oct 4th - $ 685 M

Drawing Wed Oct 6th - $ 750 M ( my Birthday yay!!!)

Drawing Sat Oct 9th - $ 850 M

Drawing Mon Oct 11th - $ 990 M (I imagine it will actually reach the billion dollar mark leading up to the drawing)

At the very most we will see $1 Billion by Wednesday Oct 13th if the jackpot egg is... [ More ]

That finishing total moved it up one notch on the biggest annuity list, to #9, but the cash value was still about $10 million shy of moving up from #8 to #7.

The official PB website still says pending, but USAMega and the state sites I've looked at all show a rollover. That amount is the $670 million that was forecast when last night's was still advertised at 635, so it now represents a whopping increase of $18.7 million for the annuity and about $13.5 million cash. Today I was out grocery shopping and I picked up an additional ticket at a store I don't usually buy from. Maybe this one time it will get lucky.

Unfortunately that's not true. Most of the $15 million increase in the advertised annuity is the result of a slightly higher interest rate. The (correct) cash value of $450 million only went up by $4 million, which still leaves it $21 million shy of matching the 7th place cash value. The 32 may have made a difference, but those numbers for past jackpots of $500+ million may well have produced a winner. The big difference is that those past drawings sold 3 to 5 times as many tickets, so a winner was 3 to 5 times as likely no mater what numbers were drawn. Technically they are still $2 per play in Idaho, but they force you to also buy the Power Play option for an additional $1 per play. However, your quote did point out an error in the article (which I have now fixed). I left out that Powerball is also played on Mondays. So thanks for the correction.
