A lot of the resentment on LP re: JP winners seems to come from players who have an attutude of I played, I didn't win the JP, someone in California did, again, therefore it must be rigged.

I will add my two cents, a little late though. I live in California.

Of the many reasons California has so many Powerball/Mega Millions is the sheer number of people living in the state, hence more players, hence more tickets sold. A few liquor stores with big winners in the past have lines of players waiting to buy tickets, also lottery pools at many workplaces.

Here is my two cents. I don't care how many combinations comes out and how many people live in Cali or come from other states to buy tickets there. It's rigged. That was very strange for winners to put themselves out like that which made me think something was not right with that win. Like how some of these winners are put in the news repeatedly to make sure people know the lottery is real and regular people are winning. Like the over saturation of news from the mexican guy who won $2B and they keep reporting of him buying houses in California and Marie Holmes who stayed in the news for a long while.

CONTEXT MATTERS:

Majority of Indiana's wins was from Powerball BEFORE California came along; California came into the Powerball 2012 ; Indiana Powerball 1992.

20 years head start that is why they have more wins but California will catch them soon the way this turd cycle is going.

You can't use these wins as a barometer for the lottery as many of these wins were less than a $100M. Many changes have happened since then as well. The odds have increased significantly and don't forget California came much later but they are quickly passing the other states. In 10 years California will have the most wins by a significant margin.

I played multiple tickets and i was getting repetitive numbers in pairs of two and three for example 3 12 32 40 51 , 18 32 39 40 51 several times. So what is happening to my multiple picks. Thanks Coin Toss. I do recall seeing Nipton a few times winning the Fantasy Five. It's been years since I went to Vegas but my first and last stop was always Baker for gas and a sandwich from the Madd Greek...lol. Before Primm opened , many from Nevada went to a small railtoad stop called Nipton, CA to play lotto . current informayion on the town now says the pop. is 15-20, it might have beem a few more than that before Primm opened.

At the time there was no Primm on the CA/NV border selling lottery tickets, lotto sales in Nipron were said to top lotto sales in all of California.

Kentucky lottery employees are forbidden from playing in KY.

Asked IGT after my issue was resolved (in RI) if they can go to Massachusetts to play. She informed me that IGT employees may not play anywhere.

I remember when PB was like huge at 80 or 90 mil and because my state didn't have powerball we would make a memorable trip to a neighboring state to get tickets ... we got like I want to say tens of tickets but, remember it only cost a buck back then ( 30 yrs ago)

I also remember going out of state to ny to buy tickets for their 80 million instate lottery jackpot.

If we only knew how much $$$ we've spent on that elusive jackpot dream we could have financed a dream vacation or two.

That is so true, especially if one lets the hype sway them. That is why I stick with one ticket whatever the amount. But will now do the gradual adjustment for every 100M.

I opt to play regardless of the amount and add the PP or MP because it's more probable to win a lower tier than the JP.

I see that many of us share similar strategies regarding the amt of tickets we purchase as it pertains to MM and PB.

We buy our tickets ( 1 w/ pp or mp ) per every 100 mil based on the annuity but, that gets expensive and even embarrassing when the jackpot gets over say 500 mil

I try to convince my fellow partners in crime ie family, to no avail, that we should base it on the cash value instead.

What unfair advantage does California have? They have more lottery vending machines in more places than any other state in the U.S. California is singlehandedly keeping the lottery in business. I never get drawn into the hype regardless of the amount on offer I always buy one PB with power play and one MM with the multiplier.

I will try the after taxes amount and add an extra ticket for every 100M under the cash option and not annuity.

Personally, I buy based off the jackpot amount. If you're concerned that you get tunnel vision based off of the jackpot amount I would recommend going with the cash payout. I've experienced the tunnel vision before and spent way more than I should have. After that experience I just reminded myself that discipline is key. Good luck in the future draws.

I always buy one regardless of the amount - I sort of like the gradual addition as the jackpot increases.

So is the one extra ticket added per every 100M based on the take home amount, or the jackpot estimate?

For example the last jackpot was 1.7B, so if you buy an extra ticket for every 100M, you'd need to buy 17 tickets the last draw. But if it's based on the take home amount after taxes, then that would have been 4 tickets for the last draw.

Very true although a financial asset search (a follow the money forensic search) could possibly turn up the winners name even if they claimed via trust. But I don't know anybody that's willing to pay for a search like that just to learn the winners name! When somebody orders a search like that, they're usually trying to uncover hidden assets so they can benefit from them monetarily.

If you're going to splurge on extra tickets then add one extra ticket per $100 or $200 million on the jackpot. I always play 1 set of numbers that have been playing for years. But, I'll start buying 2 tickets once it reaches $200 mill....then 3 once it reaches $300 mill....and so on. The additional tickets are just quick picks. I hate when the jackpot gets this high. I end up buying more tickets and spending more money than I need to. Not that I spent the rent or bill money , but just more than I should.

I usually buy just one ticket (with multiplier) for each drawing. I'm not greedy. I'll take whatever the current jackpot is. But, when it gets really high, I buy more tickets.

to be fair, per ticket sales, CA had contributed money the most to the jackpots. Next was Florida, then TX, then NY.

North Dakota was one of the states that contributed the least, yet we did have jackpot winners from ND.

If you are going to compare California then keep in mind it borders Nevada. They do not have a lotto there and many of the residents and tourist will make a trip to the state line to buy tickets. So basically the count of tickets sold in Ca is actually for two states...not one. This is also the reason the store on the state line sells more scratch offs than anywhere else and frequently win smaller jackpots .

Its really not close. Mondays powerball sales in California were 24 million. In New York it was 13 million. About the same as texas.

Obviously the way the quick picks are generated, California seems to have an advantage due to the number of winners. If the lottery were rigged, it would be so california and Florida dont win. Sales would be better from other states if people didn't see those 2 winning all the time and the objective of the lottery is to increase sales.

People will try to tell you that you are wrong but it's not like it's no merit to them having an unfair advantage. Especially if they their argument is they purchase more tickets than the other states AKA if their machines are popping out more combinations than the other states, that's an advantage.

That state has an unfair advantage because they have never sold a losing ticket. It's going to damage these games because players in the other 45 states are going to stop buying tickets altogether. No one in California deserves to win because it's way too easy. They have a state game but no one plays it because there are hundreds of thousands of jackpot winners every draw. I don't think that will increase your odds of winning, sure in total most winners are in Cali. But that is just because it's the most populated state. But it's still only 1 jackpot winner per game! It still goes back to the odds of 1 to 292 million.

Texas actually only sells about half of the tickets that California does per draw. The state that is 2nd to California in when it comes to sales is Florida. And, California still sells 60% more tickets per draw than Florida.

Wow!! California again!! This State hit more in top 25 pots than any other state Well they are 5 times the state of Ohio so I guess they will have more winners than my state and the other 43 but it still messes with me why are so many huge winners over let's say past 20 years coming from this state when you going against the other 43 like for example Kentucky or even Oregon. Not only that but 3 of the last $1 Billion+ jackpots for the powerball have been won within like 70 or so miles of each other this year in the L.A. metro. Also, why do some states with a large population, like Texas, win so many few powerball jackpots

People are wrong because no state has an unfair advantage. It's not the state winning, it's an individual. It's all about ticket volume. I live in Mass and we actually had 2 Mega Millions jackpot winners here this year within the span of a month. Prior to that it had been over 11 years I believe since the last Mega Millions jackpot winner.
