This is the logic that I use.

The jackpot has gone up by say $50 million.

That is more than $50M in ticket sales.

Based on that, I argue in my head that if I spend $1,000 am not anywhere close to winning with certainty.

There is a day I bought 10 lines and I did not match even one number. Out of those 10 lines and 50 numbers, only 6 numbers had duplicates on other lines.

Really thats when it dawned on my truly this is a game of luck.

1-Massachusetts is the state where people spend more money on lottery than other states: $1,037 per capita. is it due to the water or ethnic makeup (20% Irish 12% Italian)?

2-New York spends the most in terms of lottery sale $8,866,286 or $565 per capita. Of course, California takes the second spot.

it seems Alabama should have a referendum for whether or not Alabama should participate in the lottery. (the requirement is there).

Unless I feel that the state lottery won't keep their end of the promise on the annuity.

My first choice of investment is Treasury bills and bonds.

On my lunch break, I went to get a few more tickets and the grocery store near work didn't have a line which surprised me. I also stopped at another store that sells tickets on the way home from work and they didn't have a line at the service desk either.

I don't know if it's because of the holidays or something else because I was expecting long lines.

I'd rip it up into a dozen pieces and alert the neighbors that they had an opportunity to a 1/12th share in the jackpot..... all they have to do is show up at 2 am at the VFW sans any clothes and the first 11 win their piece of the pie.

I have a couple of sisters the same way. I already told them if they don't play I won't be sharing with them. There is no way they could ever be sharing the jackpot with me, so there won't be much of a chance of me sharing the jackpot with them either. My sister Karen and I made a pact that if either of us win the Mega Million or Powerball jackpot we will split it 50/50 and I would love to split it with her.

I would focus my persistence on things that historically have proved to pay, like actual investing and up skilling.

We were in Mega Millions land Georgia for Thanksgiving. They have many lottery jackpot billboards...but none are updated to reflect anything over $999 million. Of course Mr. nosy bones emailed GA lottery about this over a year ago and they still didn't update. Grant it they have tons of them vs the few in KY...but still, it is the 21st Century.
