I have never shied away from stating that I do play the MM on Fridays.

Of course it's $2 more than what I used to spend previously, but, I am comfortable spending that $2 more.

Depending on my inclination, I may do a ticket on both draws.

I think the bottom line is to go out there and have fun within your means.

People buy $50 scratchers, I wouldn't do that, but am not the gate keeper to tell people what they can or cannot buy.

Most people don't buy Powerplay because there's a 96% chance you'll waste the extra dollar. That extra dollar is a 50% increase, which is a lot of money when one buys a lot of tickets.

I put $200 into this game and got 100 entries. I don't care about a gimmick that has a 50% house edge. Buying it would reduce my entries down to 66 to win $800 million.

I think everyone knows this but when the jackpot winner is announced, the state of purchase will be announced. Moving to another state before claiming will not change this fact. The taxes will be due to the state where you purchased your ticket and the state (if different) you lived at that time (assuming you qualify as a full time resident in that second state).

I think a significant reason why the jackpot is so large is because most people completely stopped playing Mega Millions after the price of tickets increased to $5.00. So even the former Mega Millions fans completely focused on Powerball, since Powerball tickets are still $2.00.

I definitely don't agree with that take. California isn't the last place I'd want to win. It has zero state taxes on the prize, which compared to my home state would be an extra $90 million ! The state where the ticket is bought is going to tax the ticket at their lottery tax rate and they don't care where you live.

So if you live in Illinois and win, then move to Nevada to establish residency THEN sneak back to Illinois to claim your ticket as a Nevada resident they're going to deduct the 4.95% they were going to anyway and maybe fit you for a straight jacket.

if you live in a state that has state tax, and let's assume you're lucky enough to win the lottery jackpot, then you quietly move to another to state to escape the state tax, then few months later (when you've established residency in the non-state tax state), then you sneak back in to cash in the ticket, guess what you will still pay the state tax ... can't escape the tax man. you picked your noses, found something, yes, they'd want to tax you for that too .
