Imagine if every ticket was a winner of $100,005. Would the people demanding the state pay out misprints still insist on it?

Or suppose a dealership accidentally advertises new cars for $5 (dropping the 0,000 )?

The rules for not paying out mistakes is to prevent sudden bankruptcy because of a misprint.

Common sense on the ticket. You cannot win the top prize of $100,000. and another prize of $5.00 on the same ticket. That would be worth more than the jackpot.

Revel a rocket ship symbol you win the prize automatically....I was saying same thing until I looked up the ticket on Google images and you'll see the full ticket at the bottom

Looking at the scratched ticket photo, I see where he had matched the french fries symbol twice for $10 ttl. I'm not seeing the rocket symbol in the Winning Symbol row. So, how did he win $100K prize

I always scan a losing ticket just in case I screwed up or them and it's actually a winner (the opposite of this situation).

The ticket validation system is the real determinant of a winner. Scratching off the symbols is just entertainment. Slot machines work the same way, although it's incredibly rare for this type of screw up.

Lotteries seem to have poor quality controls.

How is it the players should accept the loss for the lottery mistake. Did all the other tickets that didn't win were really losers and those players getting refunds? Pay the player,he didn't alter the ticket.Honor the win .

Were these tickets printed @ a plant in GA? Probably 10 years ago the news had a segment showing tickets being printed with lightning speed. Then wrapped up and sent to their destinations. I believe LP also ran a story on this plant

Look how we've become conditioned to recognizing that a scratcher with a 100K prize and a $5.00 on the same ticket is suspect. Regardless that's the way the ticket was printed and the people that printed the ticket have guardrails in place to prevent accidents from occurring. Once those tickets were on sale and a customer revealed the ticket to be a winner according to the rules the prize revealed should be awarded. It's Indiana lottery and the maker of the tickets error pay up. Looking at that photo of the scratch off I would have known it was some kind of error because how do you win 100k and $5 on the same ticket. Either way with the class action they will get some money which is better than nothing. It sucks to get that feeling and have it snatched away.

Technical issue caused misprint that has players considering legal action

The Hoosier Lottery has halted sales for its Space Invaders Cash Invasion scratch-off game after players have come forward with tickets that appear to have won $100,000 and other prizes valued in the thousands, which the Lottery is attributing to a technical issue.
