Yea, we have to do that alot here, ask can you pay $500'. Or make a special trip 20 min further away to cash at a place that can pay.

Nice problem to have though, having to find a place that can pay your winnings

Back in NY I remember years ago a large supermaket that would not pay anything above $50, I wrote many times to NY Lottery but they didnt care.

Yea, that happened to me, the clerk paid me what he could and asked me to come back later when the shift changed and the next clerk opened his register. I was lucky, the clerk was honest and when I returned he paid me the rest of my winnings

I would add before you hand your ticket to the clerk ask them, Can you cash a ticket for $XXX?

Otherwise they may give you the, We don't have enough in the cash register line after they already scanned your ticket.

Lotteries go to great lengths to to safeguard their interests. I've never understood why anyone who happens to be standing behind the counter of lottery retail establishment is entrusted to do the right thing where hundreds, thousands, and millions of dollars might be involved. It's up to players to look out for themselves. ALWAYS know what you've won BEFORE you go to cash in, and NEVER count on anyone else to check your tickets for you. Probably more than you think.

They may not be bigger prizes but probably a lot of them under $1,000 or under $500 even.

Some people are just so trusting

If they had an undercover going to that store it would seem that they must have been reported for doing that enough times to warrant it.

That is why, as a lottery player, it is very important that you download, where provided, your State Lottery App.

Use it to check your tickets.

I would never ever blindly take a ticket to the retailer to check for me.

I wonder how many people have fallen victim to such individuals.

A Florida Lottery retail employee was arrested after an undercover compliance operation caught him committing not just one, but two fraudulent acts.
