Actually, it was 2 out of 3 jackpot winning tickets. That drawing occurred on November 21, 2003 and was the last divided Mega Millions jackpot to date.

Sometimes there are an unusual large number of winners because the numbers either were hot or they were the kind that match ages, birthdays, etc. or patterns on bet slips.As long as you play 2 tickets with at least one DIFFERENT number that cuts the odds accordingly. There were 56 $175,000 winners on February 20, 2004 (there was one $230 million jackpot winner on that day as well). The last time there were no $175,000 winners for a drawing was on November 21, 2003.

I cant remember the highest number of 2nd tier prizes paid out in MM but I'm almost sure it was in the 50's or 60's for one drawing....

I don't think the lotteries would like that if that happened though. They would probably end up paying the $175,000 prize pari-mutuel since they would hate having to pay you an extra $8,925,000.

I have been recently thinking about this subject and remember some people saying before that if you buy two tickets for a drawing you don't cut your odds from 1 in 135 million to 1 in 67.5 million. How don't you. If picked 5 number for the white balls in either MM or PB and had every single Mega or Power Ball with it your odds would be one in how many different combos there are for the first five balls which is around 1 in 2.8 million.
