But for an extra buck you can also get another ticket. I would think that would increase your chances even more, especially since most people want to go for the jackpot, not a lower prize. The megaplier only helps if you are already a winner anyway. I think I'd always go for another ticket if I wanted to spend another dollar.

Cash,I found it. It was Eric Pearson of Marshfield Vermont. He bought the ticket at his own convenient store on July 7 2004. He had the second place prize on Powerball with the Powerplay option. The Powerplay was 5x so he got 500,000 instead of 100,000. Not bad for an extra buck eh?You can see it at: www.vtlottery.com/pdf/PBALL_WINNERS.pdf

It says Power Play does not apply to Match 5 Bonus Prizes. It didn't sound right when I read it cuz I thought I remembered somebody winning 500k on a Power Play. I gotta lay off the Jack.

The most you can get with it on Powerball is $25,000 -- 5 x the 3rd place prize of $5,000. It doesn't count for the 2nd place prize of $100,000. There's controversy over whether an extra buck would be better spent on that or another Powerball ticket.

Quote: Originally posted by jsk2001 on February 28, 2005How does the megaplier work?do you have to pay more for it? I believe it's the same as Power Play on Power Ball jsk, you pay an extra buck on each game and they draw a random number from 2-5 and the lower tier prizes are multiplied by that much.I'd bet California will have it from the get go and everybody else will follow suit.
