I have to weigh in on the unpopular side of the fence.Why would Michael have not just tried to divorce her, or just leave her to her parents? I don't think that he would spend 10 years in courts trying to remove life support just because he didn't want her around. I think that judges that put their pathetic politics in front of a human life are just as culpable as the husband. It's clear to anyone who looked at the case with open eyes that the husband had some serious ulterior motives. Her organs probably shut down due to dehydration. And if her doctors were correct on the amount of brain tissue loss, she didn't feel a thing. The part of the brain that preceives pain was gone.

She did have CAT scans and I have seen them on TV. Those are what the 12 doctors based most of the findings on. If you saw those CAT scans and MRIs, you would immediately know that her brain was far from normal. I'm not a doctor, but I have seen a few CAT scans and MRIs of the brain and spine. I would have to disagree with you on the statement that WE all let this happen because WE really didn't have anything to do with it, basically it was a personal situation between her parents and her husband seeing as how she wasn't able to voice her TRUE desire about whether to be kept alive or not that became public, but it was still a personal matter amongst family.

I find it interesting that most of you think it was wrong to remove life support for Terri, but in the same breath you say that you would not want to live like that and want to have a DPOA stating that. If you had asked Terri 20 years ago if she would like to live a life like she had for at least 15 years maybe longer, what do you think her answer would be? On a Spiritual Level we may never know what SHE really,truly desired but on a Physical level it seems like others were trying to make that decision for her.If it were me I would not want too be kept on Life Supportwhile in a state like she was.Not being able to live my life the way it was before a serious accident would be so traumatic that I would gladly welcome Death even if it were just a limb being amputated so being bed-ridden for life I would prefer not too live like that.I'm not sayin... Since Todd has not considered this off topic , I will add my comments. I agree that a person needs to put their wishes concerning life support into a document (Living Will or Durable Power of Attorney for Health), but in many cases it still doesn't work. Some of you might remember the lady that recently testified before a congressional committee about the subject. Her husband was an attorney (she is also an attorney). I, am very upset with the courts. She had no paper work drawn up showing her wishes, and the court had their nerves to withheld her tube feedings. Terri's rights was taken away.

I feel shame for the injustice done to her. When the courts decided to withhold water and to feed her and decided she should die, they should have done the humane thing and gave her something to help her die sooner. I cannot imagine the suffering she had to go thru before she had to wait so long to die. Shame on our courts and shame on her husband. So what if her family wanted to take her and care for her. Sandy, the judge will recognize a living will, but a living will is not legal in Mich. I, think Mich. uses DPOA for medical and financial.
