I think we all agree, if it's a quick pick there is no REAL way to prove the owner, so we'd all keep that one. How can you not? No way to verify owner as no receipt, no proof, etc... BUT with hand picked numbers I would be cautious, I know I play the same ones every week and there enough evidence from old tickets that would agree with me so those I would not be so quick to cash in. SIgn it, yes, cash it, depends what my lawyers says. LOL. Cheers.

has anyone seen that movie where this happens? The old black guy loses his wallet containing some money and a lottery ticket. ANother younger guy finds the wallet, takes the lottery ticket and calls the owner of the wallet to pick it up (only the wallet with no ticket in it). First thing I'd do is sign it. I'd wait a couple of weeks and see if anybody came forth or anything on the news. If no response, it's all mine. If someone did really lose it I would split it with them, because with out there numbers I wouldn't have the money and without me finding it they wouldn't have any.

Really, how would you ever know who is the real ticket owner. For all the numbers I am sure every Joe Smo could think of some combo that fit their family and think they just case to keep it. If it's a quick pick the answer is 100% keep it, sign it, claim it. If it's hand picked numbers then I still sign as it is a bear intrument but then I think I might wait to see or hear anything before proceediing.

As for finding a jackpot ticket. If it isn't signed it is mine. As for checking thrown away tickets, I used to work for a convience store. You would not believe the number of winning tickets thrown in the trash. I got $40 off of a winning Cash 3 that was thrown away. And I won alot of smaller amounts from scratchoffs people threw away. Alot of scratchoffs are so convaluted that people just don't understand them. The most I ever got off of a thrown away ticket was $100. It was one of those ticket... [ More ]

Hey I just noticed my Take Five lottery ticket for today. The rear is different. Besides signature, it now says to print your name and address, city, state, zip code.They are definately lurking at LP, but that's a good thing. There's always room for improvement.

It seems lottery officials (in NY at least) don't care who the true winner is... meaning losers weepers, finders keepers. The rear of the playslip says:A game ticket is deemed to be a bearer instrument. Neither the Lottery nor its contractors shall be responsible for lost or stolen game tickets or for game tickets redeemed by a retailer in error.

the first finder of a lost or mislaid piece of property has superior ownership rights over everyone except the true owner. all the true owner would have to do is establish by a preponderance of evidence that he or she is in fact the true owner (in other words convince the jury to a 51% degree of certainty) once that happens the finder of a lottery ticket would not only have to give the ticket back, but restitution for lost interest, in addition to paying legal fees and court costs.

A signed ticket is classified as misplaced if the owner has some idea where he or she had it last. As soon as you pick up the ticket would be classified as an voluntary bailee which means that you owe the owner of the ticket a duty to hold onto the ticket and make best efforts to see that its returned...If its not signed...then i can't think of any way the true owner would be able to establish ownership.
