I always make sure they give me the amount that I won. If I ever have tickets I'm checking I always get those tickets back after they are checked just in case.

If people signed their tickets, even the $1 winners and losers, they may have to pay some extra taxes, but they reduce their risk of getting ripped off. If the ticket is signed and thrown into the trash and later found to be a winner, it belongs to the signer.RJOh

Before you check a ticket that looks like a big winner, make a copy of it. Or better yet, go to a lottery office to do it.
