I'm happy to report that Montana has confirmed that they use a traditional ball machine for Montana Cash (their only in-state game).

And Todd you are right about Mich. When the new classic lotto came out I asked them about it being computerized and they responded that it was and so were the cash5 and keno as was the winfall...and I responded no wonder no one wins the jackpots and to my surprise ( LOL ) they never responded to that

I said in a previous message that all BC games are done by computer, and that all Tri-State games are done with balls.

Everyone who mentioned a Keno-style game that is drawn several times during the day is correct: those are almost all computer-selected. JAG331,Yup, that's the reaction that most lottery fans have after watching that nonsense. It is really startling for those who are accustomed to seeing a real live lottery drawing. And that's why I started the petition. I definitely can't imagine playing as often if that's what awaits me each evening. (Actually, I can't imagine playing at all, but I know I'd break down occasionally, so I'll settle for as often .

GA has one computerized game, Quick Cash keno which could not feasibly exist otherwise. Fixed:PennsylvaniaMissouriCanada 6/49 and Super7JS9: Michigan was correct as-is, and I agree about the other factors being important. I will gradually add various components to the Report Card, so that it becomes a complete picture of how good a lottery is. Naturally, we'll also have to add the percentage of games that offer a cash option (CO will like that one).

ToddPennsylvania has two drawings a day Midday and Evening. The Midday draw is only the 3 and 4 digit, and is computerized. All the evening games are drawn by ping pong balls. They would be the 3 and 4 digit, Cash 5, Match 6, and Lucky for Life. All drawn the old fashioned way.ThanksShaggy

I also think MI only uses computers for Classic Lotto47. And all the Tri-State games use balls. Kentucky uses RNGs for Double Up and Tic Tac Cash. I'm not sure what Iowa uses for the Cash Game. BC is the longest running user of RNGs, since 1986 I think.

I'm glad to say the PA only uses computers to draw the midday Daily Number and Big 4. Every other game uses balls. And in Canada, 6/49 and Super 7 both use balls.

Looks pretty good, Todd, at least for MA, but I think simply claiming to have ball drawings isn't enough. In MA many games claim to have ball drawings, but the balls are never televised anywhere, which really isn't a heck of a lot better than having a computer drawing. Why should I trust the person running the ball machine any more than I would trust a computer programmer? If we want fair drawings, we don't just need ball machines, we need televised (or at least public, in a mall maybe?) draw... [ More ]
