A quick sidetrack if I may please. Does mega millions or powerball ever release whether every possible combination was sold along with the other info they release after a draw? I realize that obviously if every combo was sold you would have had a winner. I guess what I mean is do they release it so that we can see just how many combo s were still unsold even if the jackpot was hit or is this information considered (sensitive) proprietary info and not for public release?Has any of the L.P. team e... [ More ]

California state income tax is 9.3%. They are trying to add a law that if you make over a certain amount ($143K, I think), you have to pay 10% and then 11% if you make over $253K. Though the CA Lottery website says that they will not be charging state tax on MM jackpots (YES!...I live in CA). I for one hope that the jackpot keeps rolling over until CA joins so that I can get a shot at it. Of course, I do not think that there is a guarantee that CA will be joining on June 24th, only that the m... [ More ]

Hey when Mega Millions was The Big Game and had lower odds it was very difficult to win even a smaller tier prize. The newest incarnation of it is going to be a jackpot chaser's dream. However it will be the first change since its initial inception of Big Game later Mega Millions which has NOT occurred during a Mercury Retrograde period (those times IMHO manage to create confusion around whatever is begun during Mercury Retrograde ).

Its called a lottery. Even pick 3 straight has terrible odds. Imagine your doctor gave you the same odds or worse a pick 4 straight game. The difference between 20-40 million isn't much considering it's a game for the entire USA. If it were for the enire state of Wyoming ok - its too long. Wyoming could just have a pick 4 straight game for their state lottery when or if they form one. But for 300+ million people living in the US it had better be some pretty long odds to generate prizes worth pl... [ More ]

Has anyone said how REALLY HARD the Mega Millions is to win? And how when CA joins it's going to be REALLY REALLY HARD to win? The odds are outrageous already and, yes, I buy ONE ticket here in TX because if you're not in, you certainly don't win. But 170 MILLION TO 1!!? It makes the TX Lotto easy to win by comparison. Has there ever been a poll done on pot size preference vs odds? I, for one, would like to win a measly 4 million with a decent chance to win, than a $100 million with no c... [ More ]

I don't believe Californians are even thinking about. It will be whatever it is when it gets here. The lottery has never been about what's fair. The interesting thing if the Jacpot isn't won, is how long it will take for a winner with the 170 million to 1 odds kick in. Just how high will it go if starts at 400M.

Here's my updated plot for what it's worth:6/3: $106m6/7: $124m6/10: $150m6/14: $177m6/17: $220m6/21: $290m6/24: $430m, first Cali drawing. The rollovers from 150m to 290m are based on last summer when the cleaning lady from Mass won $290 million.I think it would be great to see what California could do to boost a mega jackpot. So what if a Californian wins...at least I would've had my shot.

It would be odd that the prize climbed to where it had never been before but it's not fixed. I will leave the fixed games to computer drawn games. Last time it climbed that high was on 7/02/04. On mega's highest jackpot of 290 million. Since sales aren't as high I think you are right about the 275-280 range. It's down to 6 drawings now. If it made it I agree with you it would be a record jackpot. The publicity would be great but six drawings at this level is very unlikely.

At the pace the jackpot is going the weds 21 jackpot should be about 275 million. If noone won that adding california into the mix the jackpot would jump to around 400 million, then someone from California would win that. And everyone would complain they only put in for one draw. I have a feeling that the jackpot will rollover till then not that the MM is fixed or anything.

There is no way that mega can last the next 7 drawings. The prize would have to be 350+ million before CA and the changes happen on the 24th. Although it would be ironic if it got to the 300+ million mark before CA had a chance at it.
