California sales will help Mega Millions get bigger jackpots, but other states will see sales shift from time to time. The new matrix actually improves the odds of winning any prize from 1 in 43 to 1 in 40, but winning the jackpot will be 1 in 176 million instead of 1 in 136 million.

Sales in other states may have been down slightly. Remember, with the matrix change everyone playing had to buy a new ticket for this drawing. A lot of people buy multidraw tickets and since no ticket could cover the Tuesday and Friday drawings, there were probably a larger than normal number of people forgetting to buy new tickets.

FIXED prizes will be paid if the number of winners are reasonable, however if a group of players played the same numbers and win, the rules change. Such rare occurrences can happen when players get their numbers from a single source such as fortune cookies(PowerBall a few weeks ago), news papers, news events or lottery *software that predicts the same numbers for all of its users. *No such software exists as all known software packages give different sets of numbers to each of their users play... [ More ]

Anyone who wants to watch the video of the drawing last night can do so on USA Mega:http://www.usamega.com/mega-millions-drawing.asp?d=6/24/2005In fact, all drawing videos since Jan. 1, 2004 are available there by going to the past results page, then clicking the drawing date.Interesting that they did not use the same machines that are used in the studio during normal drawings. If I were to seriously compile statistics for Mega Millions drawings, I would filter out last night's drawing, for tha... [ More ]

I was surprised to see California paid $8 for a 3+0, Ohio paid $10: California paid $1 for 0+1, Ohio paid $2. Ohio does have a cap if there are more winners than expected at any prize level, so if there are 70+ second prize winners (5+0)as in PowerBall several weeks ago, they will not pay $250,000 to each winner(each State will pay according to their local sales). I'll be surprised if PowerBall doesn't have a similar rule when they change their matrix next month since that has happen twic... [ More ]
