Brad, I love living in California. Lived here ever since I retired from the Air Force in 1972. The most populous and progressive State in the nation, but Mega Millions Lottery is not an equal opportunity lottery for us. Some of them lottery commission folks in Sacramento don't have their lottery act together. John in sunny and cool Escondido, California

Good point RjOHBut don't forget, California is the REASON why Mega Millions drawings will constantly have ASTRONOMICAL jackpots and Powerball jackpots will end up being less than those of MM as more people will win more Powerball drawings.

California wants it pari-mutuel when Proposition 37 passes in 1984. With pari-mutuel prizes, some people win more than the average value and some people win less than the average value. Once a player knows that going in, they simply have to decide if they still want to play the game. That's why my dad buys the numbers to play MM and California SLP.

Problem is you have parts of California that are 1,000 miles from Arizona or Oregon...LOL

Of course that will not happen. Mega Millions is smart enough to not let that happen by disallowing more states from joining. However, if the Californians do not like the pari-mutuel prize structure, some of them can always play Powerball in Arizona or Oregon.

How about the person that won $290,411? That person is obviously happy that the CA prizes are pari-mutuel.With pari-mutuel prizes, some people win more than the average value and some people win less than the average value. Once a player knows that going in, they simply have to decide if they still want to play the game.Complaining about the game does not help. Either play or don't play. CA winners are pari-mutuel. It depends on number of winners and sales. The example of 5/5 gets $80K is a crap.

It would be interesting if one of the States that boarders California try to join the MegaMillion game, if they succeeded they would get a pool of players from California if California didn't change their payout structure.RJOh

How crappy would that be a prize for matching 5 is supposed to be $250,000 and you get only a little over $80,000. What a joke. haha I am glad I don't live in California. :)Brad
