Giving gifts is a good way to pay more taxes to the government. If the gift you gave exceeds 10K, you have to pay a tax on the amount in exceof that threshold. The tax can range from an additional 20 to 55 percent.

money never made friends more grateful. give the money to a charity or to someone who's truly in need, and don't expect to get the money back. I bailed out my mom with 125 K out of my own pocket when she was burdened with hundreds of thousands of debt after my dad died. i managed her estate and helped repay the back taxes and outstanding loans. now, she's worth over a million and i've never been repaid a fraction.

I have never expected a family member to give me money to give to my friends or anybody else and if a family member can afford to give his money away, then he doesn't need any of mine even if I won a lottery.RJOh

When my Dad won the Minnesota Gopher 5 back in 2004, he gave some to us kids and the grandkids if they were in need .................... but that was it! Yup, I agree with LottoMike.... it depends on how much the first friend or relative generously gave me. Of course I'd do what I always do when I win more than a few $s... and give 10% to charity...

One of the few reasons I vote *maybe* is : 1: If its my parent who won, she would want that I give a portion to my children (who are at an age where I can call them *friendly* adults). 2: If its a friend that needs a medical wheelchair or a house modification to ease their lifestyle. 3: If its a friend, its doubtfull that they would *expect* any of my lucratic winnings. they are my friends beyond any money factor. Besides most of my friends would tell me to keep the money and enjoy its perks! 4
