I understand the old odds of winning any prize was 1 to 30, and it's now over 1 in 40. You have to buy over 40 tickets to expect to get any prize so it's also tougher on pools. Pools will lose members for lack of interest if they don't get the occasional prize that rewards them for persistence. It's also gotta be tougher on people playing with wheels and systems since they have to go a longer period or more tickets between hits. The longer you go without success, even if it's due to the change... [ More ]

CA only picked up the slack in terms of sales where other states lost in this matrix. I think CA wins when it hits 100+ million, but most people prefer playing from all across the country when it hits 200+ million. I agree with this because of the matrix. If CA has to shut down Mega Millions due to a lawsuit, sales will drop permanently and it will be slower for MM to get back to their record at 363 million.

That would be my guess lottomike... Just give them some time. If the JP goes over $200 million everyone will be playing and the ball will start rolling again.

Well if you look at the sales per state it's obvious that the matrix change did have a hit on sales in the other states. Time will tell if this decrease is temporary or not. A few really high jackpots and a few small jackpots later and maybe the sales in states other than CA will increase.

Looks like California only picked up what other states lost in sales so sales are still flat and it will still take 4 drawings to go from 100-199 million.
