Well, one ticket in CA matched 5/5 and won $1.4 million. It's a mini progressive. When no CA ticket matches 5 numbers in MM, it rolls over until at least 1 ticket matches 5 numbers, but misses the MEGA. On the downside, 1/5+MB was only $2, and 0/5+MB was only $1 in the last draw thanks to 1 ticket hitting 5/5, but missed the MEGA.

They're just having fewer winners than statistically expected. The other states may too, but we'll never know, because their prizes are all fixed.

I agree with you Todd. I was pleased that CA had 0/5+MB win $3, $1 more than the other states. I'm also pleased that CA's 2nd tier prize is going to be $1.5 million because no one from CA hit the $1.25 million prize. It's like CA is having a mini progressive.

The Aug 5 draw was the first time California paid more than $2 for a 0+1 match (Mega ball only match). The payment was $3.The 5+0 match was a record $1.25 million with no winners.No states won the 5+0 match. The last time that happened was Nov 21, 2003.Good luck,Jake

The prize for 5+0 in California for the Aug 2 draw was $1.2 million.The 4+1 prize was the lowest to date at $5,907. The average prize value is $12,907. Other states pay $10,000 for 4+1.Good luck,Jake

I think each Mega state is on it's own when it comes for covering the 5/0 winnings. Judging that we (WA state) are dead last in sales that doesn't bode well for wheelers. Then again if I won I could deal with getting less than 250k.

The USA Mega Drawing Information page shows the exact amounts that Californians would win (or did win) for each prize level. A single California 5+0 winner would have won $925,000 this past Mega Millions drawing.

Um, I believe in Washington, like in the other ten Mega Millions states besides California, the $250,000 is guaranteed so long as total prize liability for the eleven states besides California does not exceed the smaller of 300% of draw sales or 50% of draw sales plus $50 million.

If this keeps up at the smaller jackpot levels CA players could win over $1 million for a 5/0 win. Good thing they aren't playing in WA state they would be lucky to get the $250k.

I think the CA website has been corrected. It now shows a payout of $925,000 had there been a single 5+0 winner for the 7/29/05 drawing. There's no need to mega-ply in CA.

The California Lottery website indicates that the second place prize would have been $800,000 if there was a single winner in the July 26 draw.The results for the July 29 draw on their web site are incorrect. The link points to the July 26 results.Since there was no seond place winner for the July 29 draw, I assume the prize amount would now be over $1,000,000 for the next draw.Good luck,Jake

California's pari-mutual system is neither fair nor unfair to the other states. Their system has no affect what-so-ever on the other states. The only thing shared is the jackpot, and Cali contributes the same percent of sales to the jackpot as does the other states. All lower tier prizes are paid from in-state sales. Why should anyone be concerned with how california divides the sales proceeds from tickets sold only in california? If you buy a ticket in NY or NJ, it's not going towards a 5+0 win... [ More ]

Once again, CA fails to win 1 ticket for 5/5. To make matters worse, all 1/5+MB tickets win $2 instead of $3, all 2/5 tickets won only $8 instead of normal $10, and all 0/5+MB tickets won only $1 instead of $2. RJOh, I wished that CA wins the lawsuit making them have to not play MM anymore and make sales suffer. Without CA playing MM, sales will suffer just like what PB is doing.

From what I read on all the member states websites the only obligation a state has to the other states is to contribute 32% of their ticket sales to the jackpot. It seems to me California is being unfair to its players if they are confused by the different prize amounts for each drawings.
