I used to go the races at Del Mar years ago. But one year they put down like 15 horses (I witnessed 2 of them). I decided I didn't want to see that again. They couldn't explain why, but they completely re-surfaced the track (actually down about 3 or 4 levels, if I remember correctly). I have not been back and my daughter, who has a degree in horse training, told me that it is no wonder horses break their legs.
