Powerball got hit AGAIN for the eleventh time this year!! With PB changing the matrix at the end of the month, the game will take even longer for the pot to get to a record level as sales will drop off in response to the matrix change, like it did for Mega Millions in every state except California.

The cap really is a bad rule but one Powerball doesn't have to worry about. The only record they can shoot for is how long the prize can stay under 100 million. Sales for a mega run (assuming that it will ever happen) that breaks 400 million will show just how stupid that rule is since it will limit potential sales the states gets.

The reason they have the cap rule in place is for marketing purposes. According to Powerball officials, some players will only play when there is a record, and if they get a record jackpot of $700 million this year, they miss chances to have records at $400 million, $500 million, etc. Plus, they also feel the potential for increased match 5+0 prizes will attract more players and generate more publicity as well. The cap is not really that bad a rule, because when they get a new record, it au... [ More ]

I plan on taking down the powerball jackpot this saturday for the first oregon win in awhile and end this jackpot run before it changes over to the new matrix. The new matrix will have plenty of time to create a big jackpot run just hopefully not this time.

I like the cap idea for Powerball so that if no one hits the PB Jackpot, the match 5 bonus prize would be in effect. There could be new records down the road. I would think that PB will reach 280 million for August 31st [with a new matrix] I think on September 10th, it would break the MM record. On the other hand, I hope someone wins on the last 5/53+1/42 draw for PB.

I'm gonna say it will ONLY if they got rid of that rule that puts a cap on the rollover amount once a record jackpot level is reached. So if the jackpot is around $230 million on August 27th and it rollover then I'm gonna say it will be around $320 million on August 31st (with a new matrix). But if the old rule is still in effect then it will only roll $25 million if it rolls to Sep 3rd (and will not break the MM record). I'm hoping they got rid of that rule.
