I would think, that if I had used a slip, and had the date of the purchase and the location of the purchase on the original slip, I would be finding a hungry lawyer. For $250M (minus the government), I am positive I would find a lawyer willing to go to the Supreme Court for me. Needless to say, it is one of the reasons I use slips, date them, mark the location, and save them.

Part of the rules in NJ is that they have to post the location of where any winning ticket, or scratch off over a certain amount. It's updated on the website on a daily basis. There is also a searchable database, where you can search by city or county for winners name, amount won, or where the item was sold. There was a $125K winner in Park Ridge NJ last April (?) and since I found the store, I have made sure I buy one set of tickets there for every draw. Worth noting, I haven't won a nickle from... [ More ]

As it turned out the real winner knew where he bought the ticket so when he came forward he didn't have to deal with claims by others that they bought the ticket as the same place and lost it as the MegaMillions winner in Cleveland had to do a year or two ago. I don't think there is anything wrong with lottery authorities waiting a month to give the real winner a chance to get organized with his advisers before coming forward, there no good reason for the losers to have that information before... [ More ]

Doesn't the place that sold the winning ticket get something for selling the winning ticket? In Illinois on their website it tells you where every little lotto, lotto, or mega winning ticket was sold city and store, even for the 250,000 dollar prize. All of that just 3 hours after the draw, it's really nice to know where the winning ticket's are sold. Without giving out that information it would be easy to have a state lotto employee fake a win.

Well we may have a democacy here, but Money does some very strange things to people! I can understand what the NM lottery is doing and I can also see where the location of the winning ticket being sold does no harm! Heck as we have said the lottery knows every detail of that ticket! So there really is no need for so much security! Like I said before, if the winning ticket location was to be released to the public I see no security threat! But that's just my opinion.

Nevertheless, that's evidently the reason for the secrecy. Looks as though 46 percent answered the poll with the opinion the reasons were legit, but they don't make sense. We're a democracy here.Jack

Might well be no winnie in any case. Whatever the reasons for not saying, I'd love to know where the ticket was sold. So would everyone else in NM who's old enough to forget absent-mindedly buying a lottery ticket and using it for a bookmark, putting it someplace where it 'can't' be forgotten or lost, or just leaving it in a shirt pocket in the laundry basket.Jack

Jap69 you are 100% right for the reasons as to why the NM lottery hasn't disclosed anything to the public about the ticket purchased! And yes the NM lottery office knows all the infomation that pertains to that ticket (Everything)! Every state that has a lottery knows everything about every ticket (when, where, how many lines of play) you name it they know it

I think there have been times where a lottery winner has claimed the prize money without a ticket. It had been lost.If a person knew they had won and lost the ticket they would notify the lottery that they had purchased the ticket giving the location purchased and the time purchased and other info if possible. They could also have purchased the ticket with other lines of play on it. The purchaser could give the lottery the other lines of play on the ticket with the exact combinations per line if... [ More ]

We get so few winners in NM, Pac, there's no way of knowing what's ongoing and what isn't.Seems if they wanted to find the winner, they'd do everything they could to bring him/her out of the woodwork. I saw a thread about the Euro Millions efforts to find winners who didn't come forward, brought to mind the contrast with what we're seeing here.Jack

Nobody's come forward to claim the $36 million dollar PB win. At the moment maybe there's no reason for the Lottery Authority to release the purchase information of whether it was a QP, where and when the ticket was purchased, etc.But as more time passes their motives will become a lot more subject to scrutiny and suspicion. Why do you think they're withholding this information?Jack
