And, possibly, losing a ton of money on the players who played with that in mind. Might be a wash for them, unless people just quit using the multiplier entirely. Which might happen. True. I've hit Powerplay a few times to turn $3 into $15. Powerball will be saving a ton of money on those lower payouts for the smaller prizes.

Jag:Most of the wins where I've found powerplay helpful haven't involved $200K and above. They've come in wheels where I'd successfully picked redballs or a few whiteballs.... Those kinds of wins are the ones where powerplay's worth the money for me, and where a reduced possibility of a 5x win in favor of a 2x win won't be worth the price of admission.I don't get many of the $400K wins for it to make that much difference.But I doubt you're missing anything. I must be missing something.In the old matrix you had a 40% shot of winning $200,000 or $300,000 if you PowerPlayed on a 5+0.Now you have a 50% shot of winning $400,000 or $600,000 on a 5+0...for a slight increase in the odds...plus you've always got that 50/50 chance of at least $800,000!It doesn't seem that bad to me.

I like powerplay a lot, too. It's been a major factor in my keeping nearer even over the long haul than I'd have been otherwise.I'm sorry to see the changes in it. i play the powerplay all the time. i have had some decent hits on the powerplay. just recently i hit the powerplay for 5x twice on the same ticket.

I'm happy that there will be no multiplier of 1 for the Power Play. I was disappointed at first when some draws had the PP of 1 from March 2001 to October 2002. Since then, the PP of 2 or more is more reasonable. I like the new 3rd PP version where 2 to 5 have a even chance of 25% of which that number will be multiplied, but the 2nd version of PP is the best.

Remember that there may be a 10x on occasion. When that would be, or what slots would become 10x, I don't know.

Five's probably a bit risky for the MUSL though. They should go the way of Oregon's Lotto and make it a straight 4x multiplier. That would maintain around the same payout percentage as an ordinary $1 wager (because the extra $1 for Powerplay does not go toward the jackpot).

Kari:I understand your confusion.On this thread the discussion's about Powerplay. Not the change on Powerball main draw.I made the same mistake as you did when I first began reading the thread. We see what we expect to see a lot of the time, thinks I.Powerplay's the multiplier for Powerball.... went from a long advantage for being 5 to about equal shots for all the multiplier numbers.Jack

The general feeling among players in NM (casual conversation in line) and among store clerks, is that Powerplay's a ripoff. Most players just don't play it here.I've always liked it, bought PP when things were going well. But a lot of that was based on the fact that the 5 multiplier came up so frequently.I'd have to feel pretty certain about my numbers before I'd buy it after seeing what you've pointed out. Yeah, but I don't PowerPlay because I'm cheap, so it doesn't matter to me. The MUSL probably did that because they don't want to pay too many $1,000,000 or $50,000 prizes.

Did you guys notice that. Today is the first time I saw something about it. They sure kept this one on the downlow. Before there used to be 15 slots and the 5 was the most common slot. Now they changed it to 16 slots with each number 2,3,4,5 having exactly 4 slots. So now instead of a 1 in 2 change of a 5 coming up every number has a 1 in 4 chance. I would be mad if I was a powerplay player.Brad
