The only cap in MM is based on sales and probabilities. I would doubt it could crack 500 million. A roll like Powerball indicates it could get up to 400 but surviving the 190 - 350 range is very very unlikely. So far MM hasn't even broke 300 in spite of having the longest odds of any game.

A 150 million jump is more likely in the game Mega millions because they don't had a match 5 bonus rule like powerball does to cap the growth of jackpots. A roll of 150 million in powerball benefits the match 5 bonus winners more than anyone else.

I think it depends on the Jackpot level. So far sales vs. population in MM isn't that great. If a jackpot passes the 300 million mark or rolls at the 290 mark to 350+ then sales could really take off. The big push would be from people who normally don't buy tickets but will thanks to media coverage.

I'm sorry but the jackpot will take some time to get there. Powerball has a cap; once the jackpot has reached the largest value it has seen, the top prize can only rise by $25 million, with the rest of the proceeds distributed to the second prize winners.I'm not sure, but I believe this is using annuity value and not cash value to determine where this limitation kicks in. Since the annuity has been inflated by a new payout scheme, the real value of the prize, it's cash value, will rise even mo... [ More ]
