Subscription tickets might play a part in the increased sales. With all the mayhem a week ago, I'm sure many people were buying tickets for the next 3 or 4 draws...so that's got to help sales spike a bit.

Yes the starting jackpot is $15 million now. The previous starting point was $10 million, and they usually sold 9-11 million tickets at that point then.

You're probably right, I just threw out a number; to make a point. I watched the Travel Channel, and on one of their shows they talked about the payouts, and they varied so much I lost track. My last trip to Vegas I put $20.00 in the machine for one multi-million dollar roll; didn't care what the odds were. Lost, walked away and never went back. Yeah, but historically, sales have increased on runs following enormous jackpots. Remember when Powerball got hit at such low jackpot levels seven times during the months of January through March this year and sales were so pathetic it took eleven rolls just to get over $100 million when it finally did

It also results from people staying away from the lower jackpot values. It's not a sure thing that higher jackpots result in increased annual sales.

Sure they can call this the largest jackpot in history, they increased the odds to make it so. But in reality Jack still holds the record with 53 balls I believe. Why not make the jackpot next to impossible to win, that way the money just keeps growing. Because everyone has that ounce of hope...

The odds of someone winning both the games below 100 million is still greater than either game breaking 300 but that's the way it should be. People who play at below 100 need to know that they can win also or the game never gets big to begin with.

I agree. But the BIG ones will be far apart. I voted no because of this. Are they a fluke? No. I do believe that if it's that high all the time it'll lose it's flavor. With it that high the chances are higher.....with them being smaller there is more of a chance...a BIG chance, but it's more probable then a 1-10mil chance.Am I making sense? If not, then blame my lack of a third cup of coffee....I ran out of creamer! lolStephanie

I think if the average jackpots for mega millions and powerball can increase over time than that is a good thing. I do not think that the jackpots will go on record runs every time but once in awhile is better than not at all.
