If I drove to New Jersey tonight to buy my tickets and won, I would have an extra $4,995,000 by paying CT, not NY tax. Of course this gain would be negated by the cost of sitting on the Hutch, Cross-County and/or Cross-Bronx, and the toll on the George Washington Bridge.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Powerball had a $300 million pot just last month and they still had no winners for that draw - it rolled one more time to $340 million (the limit thanks to the share the winnings feature).

Ticket sales for the $340M Powerball Jackpot on 10/19/05 were $165M! I emailed MUSL and asked them, so this number is accurate. Unless ticket sales go way above $100M for tonights MM drawing, I predict it will roll to Friday, 11/18.

I made a mistake in my first post, since edited. Manhattan + NYS tax rate is 12.15%, not 11.15%.

Your are right, they are great and also they have the numbers up when I can't get through to the MM site (dial-up) because of high traffic. I use Mass lottery because USAMega rounds up and Mass is straight numbers.By the way USAMega is how I found this message board.

You could always go to www.usamega.com and check on what your estimated take-home would be there, too... that is a great site with loads of info, including estimated taxes and the like.

Thanks for posting that! I use the Massachusetts State Lottery estimate of $315 Million that's ($184,642,290 Estimated Preliminary Cash Option) and if lady luck smiled on me after taxes (Tx here no state taxes) to a single winner my take would be something like 138,481,717. The amount was 136.875.000.

New Jesey? I think it will, given NY'ers spent only about $13.8M on tix for the last draw.. California has never had a higher sales total than NY, with the exception of the first 3 CA draws, at least from what I saw on lottoreport.com.
