When the Virginia lottery came out with their lotto game and the odds were around 7 million to 1, an Australian organization showed up with pre printed lotto cards with every combination and proceeded to try to purchase all of the tickets for about a $20 million dollar jackpot. They were only able to get about 5 million of the tickets before the lottery got wise to what was going on and put a halt to massive purchases. If I remember correctly, there were 3 winning tickets for that one, but the g... [ More ]

I agree with CalifDude. Even if you got a syndicate together, how big (how many people) would it have to be to fork up 76 million Euros?

Then you win. How long would it take to look through 76 million Euros worth of tickets? That would obviously depend upon how many hands (people) were in the syndicate. Because one person isn't going to be able to get it done. And the more people involved, the more the jackpot is cut-up among them.

It could be a logistical nightmare

The possibility of having to share and thus loose money is part of it. One of the biggest problems with buying all the tickets is the time involved. How long would it take you (over even a group of people) to buy 76 million tickets?

This type of thing was done a few times here in California. That was when the odds of winning were 14 million to one. A man had a group of people that purchased tickets at convenience stores. He won a few times. Once there was a problem and he missed buyin... [ More ]
