Actually Mike, I favor a National or Federal lottery. I think it would be a great idea. Someone suggested in this thread that the money be used for disaster relief...which isn't really a bad idea. But I think an even better use of the money would be to shore up the Social Security system. I think they could make that whole rotten system solvent within a few years and still have money left over to reduce the National Debt.

If the US Government decides to have a federal lottery it should be something like Spain has twice a year.

Just one or two huge drawings that the whole nations turns into to watch and see the millions or in the US could be billions spread to people all over the country.

I would play only because the two would have become one. Do I think it a good idea? My answer is no. I like the distinct and uniqueness of each, and when one large jackpot gets hit, the other is growing and will be up next. It adds more flavor to this hobby to have both. Just my opinion
