When people stop at the store and buy 10 or 20 auto picks on the Mega Millions, do they really expect to win the jackpot? Or are they just hoping they can beat the odds like the people they see on TV holding that huge cardboard check?

The Mega Millions website says the overall chances of winning a prize are 1 in 40 so I guess we should feel lucky if we win 2 bucks on 20 auto picks.

sorry but I live paycheck to paycheck. $5000 and up is alot of money to me. Maybe when that NBA contract comes, I sign a 4 major picture deal, I take over at Microsoft or something similar then I'll play the $200 million dollar jackpots but until then that occassional $900 win or chance at $5000 helps me more than dreaming for pie in the sky dreams

Yep, that's why many people only play Power Ball and Mega Millions when the jackpot is over 100 million. And they bet the longshots at the horse and dog tracks even though they knew the favorite would win.

Why waste your money on the pick 3 and 4 when for a buck we all can take a chance of changing our lives. Who cares that the odds are 175 million to one?

Here's my take on it. My thing is to try to win something. Sure it's a lot easier to win a Pick-3 top prize than it is to win any other top prize. But, your odds of winning anything are, at best, 1 in 100, and that's only if your state has pair options. And I do play the pairs, sometimes. But unless there's something special about Pick 3 or Pick 4, like an Instant Match feature, I'll be sticking to the pairs.

PayMeNow is right.

Pick 3 and Pick 4 pay more often and can actually generate a profit. If you play key numbers, which is the only way to play, Pick 4 is easier because you are calculating the movements of 4 numbers in a matrix of 10 instead of 5 numbers in a matrix of 56, for instance.

Personally, I play Pick 3 because A. Texas doesn't have Pick 4 and B. If you want to win more with Pick 3 . . .bet more per number.

No brainer.

I would most certainly agree with LottoMike and many others of the kind as to winning a little bit a lot more often as opposed to hardly ever winning anything at all by playing the bigger games which have the much larger prizes.

Winning the Pick 4 is relatively EASY when compared to the super jackpot games. Also, besides the fact that there is a drawing held somewhere almost everyday, I do like getting paid as often as possible. Yeah, Pick 4, it is indeed the ticket. Get some...get it go... [ More ]

Ironcially, I just profited yet again on the match 6 for the eight time now. Only spent $4.00 and won $12.00 Not a lot, but still a profit. Adding up all the profits from all 8 draws, and I believe I about $30-$40 to the good, which is not bad for a jackpot game.

If I am getting this close on only two plays, I can only imagine the potential of playing many more. But then again sometimes I get better luck/skill with only a couple plays as opposed to a 100.

What four4me said. The odds say you'll hit a Pick 4 before you ever (if ever) hit five or six.

I worked in Vegas and we had a player who played $50 five-spot Keno tickets.He had "deep enough" pockets to play that way and at our particular casino, a five spot special paid $ 1000 on a dollar ticket, so when he won, his payoff was $50,000. And he won frequently.

If that's your belief, then why even bother to work at figuring out the numbers that may be drawn?

Just spend $1/draw on a quickpick. If it's your turn, as you believe, then you'll win. Do anything else and you're wasting your time and money.

i agree emily,since march 2004 when the tennessee lottery started i've made over 15,000 dollars on cash 3 and cash 4.i have bought my kids clothes,paid rent,bought dvd recorder,helped on buying new vehicle,etc. what has powerball given me????? a winning ticket worth 400 dollars once and the rest were 3 dollar winners.i know where my bread is buttered.i'll stick with the pick 3 and pick 4.odds in the millions no thank you.odds barely in the thousands sounds a lot more sensible............. Some people like to gamble and win once in a while even if they lose money. That's the reason pick 3/4's are most states most popular games and that one of the reasons the a post in the pick3 forum is buried within an hour after it's posted. If you play 20 lines of pick3 everyday, you may lose money but you're going to get a box or straight hit within a month even if it doesn't make you rich. Like you, I only play the jackpot games but then that's me, so add to your list.

I play the pick 3/4 and other games because there is simply no other investment of a dollar that will give the return should you win playing those games.

While 5000 might not seem a lot to you it will however pay for a good vacation, and many other things for that matter who wouldn't want 5000 grand spending money for their birthday or Christmas or any day for that matter.

Jackpot wins in mega and other big money games are a pipe dream. And many of us will never see that day.
