Floyd...you are correct and I think that is what she was trying to say. But that attitude is an insult to all of us who play Powerball and especially those of us who play for every draw regardless of the size of the jackpot. WE are the ones who fund Powerball on a reguar basis. WE are the ones that make it possible for them to have a minimum jackpot. Jim - The person you spoke to almost got it right. It was never easy to win Powerball, but MUSL did decide that it was too easy to get a winner. I'm not sure that there was a direct connection, but the change was made after a string of jackpots that were won within the first couple of rolls. As near as I can tell, Powerball officials don't actually understand probability.

Last year when Powerball changed the matrix I called MUSL and complained. The person I spoke to on the phone told me they had to make changes to the game because it was (and I quote); ...too easy to win Powerball. She then went on a bit and made this statement (which I'll never forget)...(and again)...I quote; Winners are bad for the game.

With that in mind I suggest that Powerball adopt the slogan:

Play Powerball. Because winners are bad for the game!

Jim - I like your slogan much better than either of mine. I have a bit of a pet peeve when people say a winner beat the odds. A few people who know what they're doing can use the odds to their advantage in blackjack (until the casinos recognize them, anyway), but nobody beats the odds in games that are determined strictly by chance. Recently I have been charting Powerball's reported sales per draw versus the reported number of winners per draw. The results stunned even a hardened cynic like me. Only a little more than 2% of the people who play Powerball actually win anything at all. Last draw approx 2.28% of the people who played won money. The draw before it was almost exactly 2.3% of the players who won a prize.
