It's an example of why you should cover all Powerballs if you play this way. He would have hit the jackpot plus the second prize times 41. The hard part is getting the white balls correct.

Having more then one winning ticket that has a value of 10k or more gives the option for the player to cash each in at different times, or giving one of the tickets to another person of their choice. I have no problem with cashing in one winning ticket and letting another family member have the other ticket. Saves me from being gift taxed since I would plan to share the winning with the family member anyways. (footnote- only used 10 k as an example win).

The odds of two players getting the same quick pick should be the same as the odds of winning the jackpot - 1 in 146.1 million (1 in 175.7 million for Mega Millions). Does anyone know if the two players who split a $35 million MM jackpot back in November both had quick picks

I wonder what the odds are on two or more people picking the same exact set of numbers, or getting the same set of numbers on a QP's. I think that would go from mathematical to mystical.

Last year I got the same exact QP two days in a row on the same terminal in the Illinois Little Lotto - didn't hit a thing but just thought that was strange.

Winning the jackpot with fortune cookie numbers almost happened.

Winning a jackpot with 146M to 1 odds nearly impossible.

Please stop thinking someone will cut in on your win when you are likely not gonna win the jackpot. It is a dream they are selling us even when they give us back less than half of what we give them

It happened before. I read in the News section last year about the guy who played the same combinations with different PB, didn't match the PB but matched five several times. I never understood the logic of that type of betting but it has work better than my logic.

Yeah, it's one thing if the jackpot is split by only two or three players, but you wouldn't want to split the pot with 100 other players, like you probably would if you picked fortune cookie numbers and they won. Recall that almost happened last year, on March 30, 2005.

I look at it as no different than betting for the dealer in Vegas. When the jackpots are way up there I just look at some of thjose jackpots as obscene , no individual needs that much.

I did this on a PB in Indiana about six years ago, had 4 of 6....I won $110, the guy in the store won $110 (I'll bet he remembers that)....no won hit that night, the jackpot was $111,000,000. That was as close as I've came yet.

Why would you want others rooting for the same numbers? That just means less of the jackpot for you, if you win it. I just do not get players who play fortune cookie numbers for Powerball. What is the point of beating 146.1 million to one odds if the jackpot is split so many ways you can't retire off it

Sometime I play the same ticket for the store clerk.

That way you know you have at least one other person rooting for the same numbers.

Why would someone buy 2 of the same combination of Powerball? If you get the Powerplay, which is the same price as buying two of the same combo, you will at least double your winnings, but you could triple, quadruple, or even quintuple them as well. If you buy two of the same combo, it will only double.

This a rumor going around here that someone has 2 tickets with the same numbers that won match 5 $200,000 bonus making the win worth $400,000 but they have yet to come forward ! I guess we will see! talk about dumb luck
