LOL that is true. I think it was few years ago powerball jackpot from nj or ny i think, had to go diggin thru his trash for the winning ticket he thru away.

I would dig thru my own trash for a 186 MM jackpot ticket but why put yourself thru that in the first place. I guess it makes a good story to tell the press.

I don't know what you mean. What would the lottery have to gain by making a false statement saying a winning ticket is going to expire? When a ticket is generated online, where and when is always documented. Many times there are 3 winners for Fantasy 5 here, for example, and 1 person who won $50 or $75K doesn't claim his share. Well, you can't really account for Scratch tickets. the only way they are going to find out if soembody has the winner is if the winner comes forward.. There are alot of winning tickets unscratched

I've read that the total in the United States is in the BILLIONS but I doubt if that's just for one year. I've seen huge jackpots go unclaimed. It's unusual, but about 3 years ago we had a $30M jackpot here that expired. Usually the money gets put back into the pot, but Jeb suggested it go to a college fund.

I was thinking that figure doesn't include the scratch tickets, at least until the games have ended. If someone buys an instant game ticket and doesn't claim it, how would anyone know... [ More ]

i just don't get it. if u die of shock i understand but if u alive breathing ain't no reason u shouldn't claim ur ticket. there are so many places to check if your a winner. if u don't care if u won don't play, simple.

I've ranted about this in a few posts and there have been other comments about careless people who don't claim their prizes. In March at least 3 Fantasy 5 tickets expired in FL. I don't care if it's only $53K or $87K like the ones that expired a few days ago. 2 expired on March 30 in a town called Bushnell that I never heard of, so I wonder if they were purchased by the same person. Why even play if your not going to check your ticket? I know that odds are against u but at least check your tickets. 2 tickets, worth 850 k might go unclaimed pisses me off. That is alot of money for anyone, don't see how people can be so careless.
