My mom (who is 90) still lives in Millington. My dad was in the Navy for a few years then went to work for them as a civilian. He was the Maintenance Control Director for NAS Memphis. In February of 1983, I was in Millington for 4 months during Airframes schooling. I was sent there after bootcamp.

I had a great time there, even though I never left the base. Didn't have time to really do anything except, study, study, study. It was a 2 year college course, compressed into 4 months. I'm surprised I passed the final.

The hardest part of the test was to name how many check valves, inport, and/or outports, and/or selinoids a certain hydraulic pump had.

Hey everyone I use to work for the state of Illinois as a mental health technician. Lost 2 really good friends in tower 2 on 9/11, moved home to be with parents, paid off their home. And now I am a full time student working on my degree in education. Thats right I want to be a teacher I am aiming for graduation in spring of 2009 and want either 4th, 5th, or 6th grade. We don't make any Vette parts that I know of, but we make most of the sheetmetal parts you don't see under the skin of the cars .Dashes , floor pan parts , motor compartment parts. Inner door and fender parts for nearly all the GM products. Even Hummer Parts. Lots of truck parts also.

Sorry to hear that Lottetrybraker. I went back to work last July after 2 years almost to the day after I shattered my right femor. 5 operations on my leg and one on my knee. All the while I thought I had it bad. Still have alot of pain but live with it. I would imagine you have that same pain and possibly more.

I am disabled..I took my son hunting 13 years ago when he was 11 and he shot me in my right thigh at close range with a shotgun..blew out 2 inches of my femur..blew out my femoral vein and femoral artery and blew my sciatic nerve in half..from football in highschool..and work after high school..I have had 6 operations on my left knee and 8 operations on my right leg to save and repair it for a total of 14..

Sounds like he is going into their apprenticeship program at the school I mentioned in Piney Point. Its a school run by Seafarers International Union and it is a good school. It's tough at first because they march around alot and to different classes but it pays off in the long run if he sticks to it. I belong to that Union and have for years and chances are good he may end up on a ship with me while he is in training. i don't think he is headed to the cruise industry. he talked more about tugs and big ships. school for 3 months then 9 months on the boats. there months in different positions and then back to school. there he will pick one of the specialities he tried and go deeper and then into a real job. that is all i know.

Your right KR. It is the biggest shipping company in the world and yes they pay good money but it's nice to go home for a little while after 3 or 4 trips across the pond because while the ship is in port, things get hectic. Fast turn arounds also. 6 to 8 hours and gone. Maybe thats part of what I like about it though.

I was a CNC machinist worked my way up to night shift supervisor/manager. Mentored many newbies. Prior to that was automotive machinist mechanic. I am a pharmacy technician. Regular 8:30 to 5 job. Come home to my family and spend some time trying to figure out how to hit it big.

I am a mechanic in the water and wastewater treatment feild its a pretty sh ity job but it pays well and someone has to keep the equipment operational been at it for 23 years and i must say i know my sh it. It is one of the most recession proof jobs there is next to fast food look at it this way people need to eat and when they eat they need to sh it. i tell everyone your sh it is my bread and butter.

Your right DoubleDown. River Street or what we call Riverwalk was there . We used to go there and fall from bar to bar along the river until it was time to leave Savannah. We no longer stop there but what memories of that place I have. Lost my wallet there once. Had a phone card and called home after quite a few. Put my wallet on top of the payphone . After an hour on the phone and a sore ear , I walked away and forgot my wallet. Had to get new everything. Had a good time though.

It appears that the pic was made from River Street in Savannah, one of my favorite hangouts this time of year--watching the ships come and go while having a cold one with the wife. Sooo relaxing..

Thanks KR , I kind of work differently, I can work 75 days on and 35 off, or I can work 105 days on and 75 off , or I can work 140 days on and 75 off. It's up to me. I haven't worked much in the last couple of years , about 140 days due to an accident and now I just had my papers renewed which took a couple of monthe due to Homeland Security rules.
