Powerball and Mega Millions should just merge, or be dropped, and there should be a nation-wide Lotto USA, available in every state.

Let it be Federal and states that don't have their own state lottery couldn't keep residents from playing the lottery at all.

Heck, sell the tickets at the post office.

All states should have lotteries. The argument that people will spend/waste their money on gambling is silly. There is nothing to stop people spending/wasting their money on alcohol. Prohibition created more problems than it solved. If you state doesn't have a state lottery, vote with your pocket and play a neighboring state lottery, but informing you local politicians, when they see revenue going to other states they will listen. It could be Alabama. Now that TN has the lottery lots of people go over the border and more and more people are thinking it's not a bad idea. To be honest I think there will be more people for it if it came up for a vote again. It all depends upon the Governor race. If Riley or Roy Moore (the 10 commandments guy) get elected forget about it for another 4 years.

From what I read on the site, it looks like they will sell a subscription, aka "Season Tickets" over the phone to out of state residents for Megabucks, Mass Cash, and Cash Windfall, but it clearly states they won't do it for MegaMillions, which is the only game I'd be interested in since I live in a state(Louisiana) with a lottery and Powerball.

In the FAQs regarding subscriptions, it stated something about having to send a "registration form" to register a ticket in the owner's name. The on... [ More ]

I voted 'other', thinking of Hawaii, which I know next-to-nothing about in the current state of things there. Haven't been to the place in 40-some years.

But Hawaiians used to be fairly laid-back folk who didn't get overly concerned about the ulcers other people give themselves over moral issues as an excuse to deprive others of their freedom of choice.

Maybe they still have enough of that left to give themselves the freedom of playing the numbers.

If you live in a state without a lottery, you can play the Massachusetts state lottery. You can buy subscription over the phone, they have a toll free number. It's totally legal!

Oh it's true. In the 1980's when real estate went berserk and Las Vegas developers had to go outside of Nevada for funding they approached Salt Lake City bankers (guess who!)

Since gambling wasn't a really palatable term to use with Mormon bankers the word gaming came into play and has stuck ever since. The players are gambling, the people who own the joints that let them gamble are in the gaming business.

I voted Alabama, because it did get on the ballot there a couple of years ago, but was defeated. I'm sure they'll try again soon.

I don't mind if Arkansas and Mississippi don't get a lottery anytime soon, they'll just have to keep coming across the border to Louisiana to play!

North Carolina isn't listed on the results page because it's lottery is brand new and doesn't yet have online games.

Wyoming doesn't count since no one lives there.

Hawaii and Alaska aren't on the list either.

On the casino / legalized gambling side, it was thought that the states that would never have any form of legalized gambling (other than horse races, if they already had them, such as Arkanasas) would be:

Tennessee - because of the Baptists

I voted "arkansas." That state seems to have the most activity at the moment. See the news article "AG certifies proposed amendment for casinos, lottery."

However, I doubt that any of the states listed in this poll will have a lottery within the next five years, if ever. Certainly not Alabama. If you think the fight over the lottery in North Carolina was ugly, just wait until it's brought up again here.

None of the above. Utah's Mormons are the main poulation, and they are anti-gambling. Nevada doesn't need the revenue because they have so much coming in from the casinos. THe other states are low population states and the state wouldn't make enough profit from them.
