So far, I've had better luck with choosing my own numbers. I haven't won big, but I still have won more then when I play quick picks.

In the last 2 months my group has run close to 28000 lines

out of those 28000 lines approx 18000 were quick picks or free plays

we won more on the numbers we chose.

we came close on one quick pick but came close 3 times on the numbers we chose.

Free plays in my mind our garbage would rather have a dollar.

but if i win big on a quick pick i will change my mind lol.

QPs do work, even at a smaller prize. Got 062 as a QP pick 3 in Tenn. Won $500, spent 50 not a bad investment I would say.

what i want to same 6 numbers are printed twice on the same ticket!

i mean if its truly random the has to be a chance of this happening, about 1 in 13 mill for 2 line qp, even less if you go for 12 lines or such. but ive never heard of it.

so the call goes out for a qp that has same 6 numbers on it twice.

I check the press releases most nights and the majority of Fantasy5, MegaMoney and Lotto winners bought are QPs. That's not to say they're any more likely to be drawn, only that there are many more sold. Even people who always play their own numbers (like yours truly) might spontaneously say give me a couple of quickpicks too if they have an extra few bucks.

I always heard it was around 40 percent, and then suddenly, recently, I started to see higher percentages. I was scratching my head why this was happening. Guess what?....thanx to this post, it is explained.

The raw estimate is higher, but because most of the plays are QPs. Once the factor of the remaining percentage, people who chose their own numbers, takes effect, then it becomes the 40 percent that I always heard about. It all makes sense now......

I hear the numbers from LOST are the second most played combination in the UK 6/49, that must have something to do with why jackpots take so long to be hit sometimes. The rollover creates more LOST number players, not just more unique combinations played. I wonder if every combination is ever played, I doubt it. Of course the lottery could always make a Quick Pick program that chews through every combination before giving out the same combination twice, just isn't good for business. BobP... [ More ]

I don't really like to play mulitple draws of the same numbers. The only time I do get multiple tickets is when I travel to another state and know that I won't be back anytime soon.

I would suspect the people buying tickets for multiple draws would fall into 3 camps.

1. People that play every drawing irregardless of the prize.

2. People who came a long way to get tickets and aren't from the area or are travelling soon.

3. People that don't like standing in line and are only getting a few tickets.

I have often wondered how many qp's I have checked on Sunday morning that were losers and were thrown in trash and then the line falls the following Wednesday.

Ever wonder why some jackpots get really large before hitting.. then at other times they hit within a few draws apart?

I have given it a lot of thought while working in the Lotto Store.. When the purse gets to be over 100 million.. more and more people come in.. the purse grows.. and more qps are given.. Yes, of course that the reason that many Quick Picks wins. For winning the jackpot, they seem to work as well as picking your own numbers. For the reasons you mention, I personally don't think they're as good at hitting lower-tier prizes though.

I've won more money (not a jackpot) by selecting my own numbers, but I've had a few QP's that have paid ok (between $15.00 and $100.00).

You only increase your odds if you wheel the right numbers though. Usually they are the wrong numbers.

Quickpicks are fine. The odds are really the same especially for games that don't have a two set system like standard 6/49 games.

Isn't that because 70-75% of all tickets purchased are Quick Picks? Percentage wise both methods are equal. When you pick your own numbers you can improve your odds of winning a prize by wheeling. Actually when you back out all the duplicate combinations people play based on play slip patterns the odds of winning with your own numbers if unique are slightly better then say racoons living in the sewer winning on a Quick Pick that fell through the grate. Buying quick picks or picking your own numbers doesn't change your odds of winning. People read the odds of winning and think they don't apply to them and that is foolish. I prefer to pick my own numbers because I foolishly think I can improve my odds of winning and it's entertaining for me. Winning with a QP wouldn't feel as good as winning with my own numbers, but I would appreciate it just as much.

Of course Quick Picks win, they do every day somewhere, but not for you. You can buy a hundred Quick Picks every draw and never win a jackpot. On the other hand if some joe buys a six pack and a lotto ticket and throws it in the wash it will win. That's how it works, check the news if you don't believe me.

I am wondering if playing quick picks (where the machine picks the numbers for you) actually ever works. I usually do this, but have been wondering if I should just pick a set of numbers or multiple sets and stick with these numbers....any help would be greatly appreciated...
