Competition is addictive. Type A personalities have addictive natures. These two former sports stars palyed at the top of the heap and when people of this caliber retire, its hard to transition that competitive fire. Many end up gambling because of the high stakes and the adrenaline of beating someone on the other side of the table; the slots, or whatever.

Mike you sounds like the guy buying a carton of cigarettes and a six pack that told me I was wasting my money buying lottery tickets. I'm sure he felt he could find a better way to spend my money than I was doing. If more people managed their own money the way they think others should managed theirs, there be more millionaires and less lottery players.

I don't know these men personally, but many people have gambling addictions and can't control their spending. Maybe they always blew money, but on a different level. What a waste! Think of all the people that money would feed. You could build 300 $200,000 homes, buy 3,000 $20,000 cars...but flushing it down the toilet like that makes no sense to me.

i guarantee you one thing.if i had these guys money i would buy a couple houses and a couple nice cars.then i'd stick the rest in the bank and go home and be satisfied,lol.......

Recent headlines from both of these high profile athletes:

John Daly says he has gambled away $ 50 to $ 60 million dollars over the last 10 years.

Sir Charles says he isn't immune. $ 10 Million dollars himself ...

I empathize but at the same time wonder why someone didn't see this and stop them ? Friends don't let friends drive drunk--why don't friends stop friends from pissing thier money away ??
