Scandahoovians have always impressed me as being quality folks.

Hard to find fault with anyone who attaches a name such as rip snorter to his gas attacks, even if it's in a foreign tongue.

You're probably not the only one, Todd. But I used to hear it used alot when I was growing up. (well some would argue that I actually still haven't grown up) Anyway, I never saw a definition of it officially, but we always understood it as being defined as someone who was positively-sharp . Kinda close to what you mention. Never did look it up in the dictionary though.

The one about cows and flat rocks used to be fairly popular where I live until we went a generation without anything happening to allow us to use it. Kids grew up knowing how dry powder houses were, how hot two-dollar pistols are, how busy two-bit whatchallits in quarter factories might get, how unfocused ruptured ducks in hailstorms are, but they never had the chance for the schooling a good rain gives.

Where I come from we used ripsnorter as a description for one helluva party or something that gave you a deep belly laugh. We also used whippersnappers meaning rambunctious kids that were still wet behind the ears.

It is funny that we see all these ID's daily and never put 2 and 2 together. Not only is LP a great lotto site, it's a great learning tool as well! I love to learn words and meanings! There is always room to grown in all areas of life.

Yes My Grandparents used the word young whippersnappers as well! So do lots of older folks. Geeeee I hope all these words don't phase out with that generation because it is neat to hear them said and then learn the meaning

Hi Todd,

I knew it was a slang word but did not really know the full meaning. I have heard the older generation use the word and most likely that is where a person would hear the word said.

There are other ID's on this board that actually is a word or meaning. I can't pop them all off now but one comes to mind is Konane.

Konane is a board game did anyone else know this

I thought the word ripsnorted was slang from the old west. I've heard my father use the term ripsnorter I thought it meant (extraordinary)

He also called lil kids whippersnappers which is like the opposite (a diminutive, insignificant, or presumptuous person

I learned yesterday that a ripsnorter is a real word -- how clever Jack is! I saw the word in a newspaper article about a spelling bee. It was one of the words they had to spell.

It is slang for One that is remarkable for strength, intensity, or excellence.
