If NJ has to shut down their participation in MM due to budget problems, sales will continue to fall. I think MM will roll, but it will probably set a new roll 2 low in new matrix.

I would still buy a couple of tickets even at 14 million. But I agree it will probably start rolling bigger when the jackpot gets a bit higher and when NJ is able to play again.

The lotteries do a good job predicting.

They probably looked at Tuesday being the 4th of July holiday and assuming a lot of places will be closed or people won't have lottery tickets on their mind.

Also the 3rd largest seller in MM doesn't have the ability to sell tickets. This probably also had some push into only raising the jackpot by $2,000,000.

The jackpot is projected based on past history , current states projectional revenue, and those who buy advance tickets for games. They cant really over project. Im sure it will increase by Tuesdays draw since Im going to buy 3$ worth. That should add a whoppin $1.23 to the jackpot ! :)

(Im behind the times , I didnt realize NJ is having lottery problems. That will make a difference

Another reason that the increase is so small besides the ones stated is because the jackpot value was small to begin with since someone had won the jackpot last week. I'm sure that if the jackpot was $50 million or more rather than $12 milliion, the increase would have been a lot higher, even with California and New Jersey factored in.

The fact that the New Jersey lottery is being shut down may hurt Mega Millions sales even more, especially since NJ has the highest "per capita" sales, according to the Texas Lotto Report website (for some reason, lotterypost censors its web address).

That is the smallest increase Mega has had since it went to 5/56 + 1/46, and I think it is the minimum rollover. I'm surprised $3 million isn't the minimum rollover, which it should be. I guess Mega didn't think of that because they didn't think minimum rollovers were necessary with California playing.

RJOh, good luck to you. Also, I'm playing CA SLP today. My dad put up $2 while my aunt put up at least $5. With a $98 million CA SLP Jackpot and about 41.5 million to 1 odds, it's a great idea.

In Ohio the Rolling Cash5 $317K jackpot with odds of 1:575,757 and MegaMillion 2nd prize payout of $250K with odds of 1:3,819,816 had me spending my money on RC5. RC5 rolled to $400K+, so I'm playing again today. MM sales are going to continue to be down as long as any state games have a better payout with better odds.

I mean who in the hell would be playing Mega Millions in California right now.

Why would you buy tickets for Mega Millions when odds are 1 in 175 million when you could buy tickets for SLP that has a $100 million jackpot with odds of 1 in 44 million?

In fact Bradly_60, I think MM sales are down because of current CA SLP jackpot. As long as CA SLP Jackpot continues to roll [22 straight without a CA SLP winner and currently 98 million], MM will see new roll lows because of CA SLP. MM is waiting for CA SLP to hit.
