1. x - 2z = 8

8=x-2z

8-x=x-2z-x

negative x cancels out positive x on this side

8-x=2z

(8-x)/2=2z/2

Divide by 2 cancels out the 2 on this side

(8-x)/2=z

2. 2y + z = -5

-5=2y+z

-5-z=2y+z-z

negative z cancels out positive z on this side

-5-z=2y

(-5-z)/2=2y/2

Divide by 2 cancels out the 2 on this side

(-5-z)/2=y

5=3x+y

5-y=3x+y-y

Hey guys/gals:

This is a little off the beaten path of lottery discussion, but I was talking to my nephew last night on the phone and he was telling me about an Algebra problem that he had, and I laughed and said, shoot it to me...after that the laughter subsided and I was going What on earth?!

Anyway, I wanted to see who would be able to solve this for me to show that little snot-nosed brat who the man (or woman) is at L.P.
