That was the origin for name a kind of shoe Hush Puppies.... maybe they even still manufacture them.

When they came out they were a smash hit.... first comfortable shoes off the shelf ever to come along

Yea, these different sayings confuse me. I once had a person tell me their dogs were barking. I just stood there dazed because I didn't know in the heck she was talking about. I thought how in the world could she hear her dogs barking so far away.
