Hi Sandy,

It's funny how things happen.....I live in Melbourne and, up to a few days ago, I would have said that your daughter would have been able to bring her PC down here quite happily. However, early last week, someone at work told me that when Compaq first started up down here, they sent down a whole load of PC's that wouldn't work and ended up sending them back.

Have a look at this:

http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Hardware_Software/2002/MonitorHemispheres.asp

Regards,... [ More ]

I don't think so. My old dot-matrix printer had it but lately I've noticed that setting only on the the computer case. I assume all computers components are manufactured these days uniquely for the country of final sale.

All the computers that I've brought have a voltage setting for the U.S. of 110 but can be reset for a different voltage. That setting is usually near the power cord on the power supply and is usually marked in red. There's usually a note about it in the manual.

Check at Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc. to see if they have a voltage transformer for computters. The electricity in some coutries are a higher voltage than here (120v.). They do make such things for shavers and so forth for people traveling abroad.

She can also call one of the stores listed above and they could probalby check for her.

I know this is off topic for this forum but the info is needed and the people on here are on the up and up with smarts so I thought I would take a shot at this.

My daughter is moving to Melbourne, Australia and a question came up this morning in our conversation. She is taking her computer.............but the question is will it work there? She was saying that the electric might be different there like it is in Korea and some other countries. Therefore, if it is a different electric setup.... [ More ]
