I tell people I play the lottery, and on several occasions I have been slammed by people telling me that I am totally wasting my money and I must be some kind of idiot. Then I start a little conversation with the same people asking them a question or two. Like....Do you drink? I don't.... How much does that cost? Do you smoke? I don't.... How much does that cost? Do you buy very expensive sports jerseys that have OTHER people's names on them? (these are often the people wearing them at the time... [ More ]

Sometimes. I talk around the subject to see how receptive they are. But for the most part everyone knows that I play and that I really don't care what they think. Most of the folk who do the judging don't contribute 1 thin dime towards my household.

If you don't like playing. Don't play. If you do, don't let anyone stop you from playing unless of course they are paying your bills.

You can't win it if you're not in it.

Very good topic, JXP..

My immediate family knows that I play...In fact, the In laws are as bad( frequent to the point of no return !! ) as my wife and I with casino gambling and lottery playing...

My parents- no way..they are not now, nor have they ever been lottery players. Perhaps too religious, perhaps old fashioned beliefs, etc....

Co workers ? some know , some don't....

No one in my family knows I post here but me...

DD

Are you open about playing the lottery or are you a closet player?

Sometimes I get a very negative reaction when I tell someone I buy lottery tickets. I once told a manager on a job interview that I am seeking a long term career where I can grow with the company and challenge myself blah, blah. But I added jokingly so I'll be working here until I'm 75 or win the lottery. (bad idea) The man said he thinks people who buy lottery tickets are lazy and that he wouldn't even take the money... [ More ]
