I want to thank everyone for their feedback and very thoughtful comments. This has been a very interesting debate and I certainly have a lot to digest.

I will close this discussion by saying a few words. Ratings are a completely new concept, something that has not been done before. The stars that existed before were not ratings, and they are simply replaced by more appealing graphics.

Yes, it's like Lottery Idol But the most puzzling thing about it is that a non-paying member get the highest status than a member who came aboard paying platinum and renewed platinum.

What are they getting the highest status for? Being the longest moocher. I would think that the paying member would always be above the non-paying member in status. If not, why become a member. As I see it, everyone here knows who the posters are and where they post! So why have anything that sets one person apart from another? Appears to be some deja-vu as to where we are discussing this .... similar discussions different subjects in the past.

Without Todd's vision, innovation and countless hours of hard work we could be posting on a so-so site which is neither changed nor improved. Also the webmaster could be someone who tells us how the site is going to be if they answered PM's at all ... rather than listening to input and attempting to strike an acceptable middle ground for all.

Yesterday I logged on to The Post and discovered the new ratings. As I said before, I like the new ratings and appreciate what Todd is doing.

However, I immediately though to myself that this is going to generate 50 pages of over - analyzation and explanation postings.

Don't get me wrong....I love the LP, or I wouldn't be here, however, I don't have a life, and still don't worry over ratings.

If the information can be beneficial to just one person here, then the job is done. You can have the lowest rating, and come up with a brainstorm that a guru coudn't come up with.

IMHO, the statistics that reveal most about members are their prediction statistics. Presenting ideas and posting a lot of information about lotteries is important and so is being a paid member, that is why they have gold or platinum plates under their names, but paid membership give you access to special features of this website not make you part-owner. Picking combinations and posting them allows members to be compared by one standard, results.

I say if we are going to be rated on this website lets put it to a vote. When the 45,000 members have cast there votes, we turn the results over to todd for his review. Which way the results turn out should be the only factor that decides if the rating system stays or goes. This at least gives all members a chance to vote on the subject and put an end to the bickering

The Progressive Forum Participation Rating is quite kool, and I tend to be partisan when it comes to stuff like this, however the Terminology used with the Rating should relate more to what the Rating shows than the Knowledge/Expertise of the Member being Rated.

Some Example Ratings:

Too New To Rate

Contributes Annually

Contributes Bi-Annually

Contributes Quarterly

Contributes Bi-Monthly

Contributes Monthly

Contributes Weekly

I feel bummed for Todd too, Rick. In the grand scheme of things, we are all here to learn how to make the lottery profitable for ourselves and each other. Who really cares what someone's rating is? I am going to post whether a newbie thinks I am an expert of if they think I am a buffoon (more likely the case! lol). My ideas will come out regardless of my rating.

Todd went through a lot of rough times on here every time he made changes to this site someone had complaints about it. Less we forget this is his site to do with what he pleases. He has bent over backwards creating features not found anywhere on the net. He is at the forefront of web based technology something of which many of us have no clue about. The solution was credible. If there are suggestions to improve the solution, we should provide them. I'm sure Todd is open to suggestions.

Thanks for the offer, but I'd be hard pressed to offer explanations for things that I don't fully understand myself. The numerical ratios which define the member rating categories would simply be eight numbers (fractions, decimal equivalents, or percentages); however, you are the only one who knows what those numbers are. I agree that there is nothing subjective or arbitrary about the way the ratings are derived. Actually, only two factors are involved: (1) a member's actual number of posting days divided by (2) the number of days that Lottery Post has been around. (Lottery Post days) That's it. It's a very simple concept.

It's the purported interpretation of that simple ratio that I see as subjective. If I may quote from Todd's blog:

Todd explained in his blog (that Emily provided a link to earlier in this thread) about how the ratings are derived.

They are not subjective ratings. If you've been a member of LP for five years and have visited the site every day and posted things every day in those five years, you will have a higher rating than someone who joined a year ago and and has visited every day and posted things every day for that year.

Whatever happens or doesn't happen with the new ratings, don't lose any sleep over it. Just keep right on hammering away at your favorite lottery games. Your state lottery will eventually give you recognition in cash. $$$

Personally, I think my rating as an Advanced member is a bit high. I've never won a lottery jackpot, I don't know anything that's helped me win more money than the average Joe, and the only advances I make are increased losses with most every passing draw.

I understood the rating because I'd already read about it in Todd's blog, but I can see how that rating and the other indicators (level of membership, level of total posts, poster ratings) might be confusing if a reader were not familiar with them. We can't really hold it against Todd for trying to to increase regular participation on the site. Whether it's his intent or not, the effect of the new ratings on those who are concerned with ratings will be to prod them into posting something every day. That doesn't guarantee that people will post anything of value, but it will demonstrate more traffic on the site, and that translates into $$$.
