Yes store clerks, customers and people in daily life will look at me or say to me that they think I'm wasting my time playing the lottery. But I have told some of them that I win the lottery every week. Do they? And they say they don't.

I win small amounts but it is regularly, and they don't. So that makes me happy.

That would have really ticked me off. I'd probably have said something like You need to go to psycho-skank anonymous, cuz you got a bigger problem. And I probably would have written a complaint letter to their corporate office telling them I would be making all my purchases at a different store until they trained their employees to do their jobs without deliberately offending customers.

One trip to a bp station the mega millions was up really high and I played $43 worth tickets for my group the clerk rolled her eyes at me held my betslips up high so that all of the other clerks could see them.Two other clerks came over and watched her run them through the machine like they were amazed at such a large total.Then one of them shouted, You need to go to gamblers anonymous cause you got a problem .When I told them they were for a group they seemed to act a bit better.

Yeah! It's hard to drink liquids, because most of what I drink just comes out of the holes. I have to use plugs If I want to stay hydrated.

I largely only play at stores where the owners/clerks are enthusiastic to sell lottery tickets...I guess when you play at border stores, that goes with the territory as they know the majority of people who come in are there to play the lottery. My only reason to stop at a convenience store is to buy gas and lottery tickets...if a C-store doesn't offer lotto and I still have enough gas to make it to another C-store, I put my car in drive and go there to knock out two birds with one stone so to s... The store clearks that I buy my tickets from do not judge me.

They know me and they know that I can afford it, and furthermore, some of the girls like for me to scratch the tickets in the store because they know if I have a good hit ( >$50.00 ) that they usually will get a $5 tip . Not because they did anything special, I just like giving money to certain people.

I like to think I'm a nice guy and I just enjoy giving....

I am so glad you report him. That was flat wrong.

I will have customers who are so dang slow with making purchases., they get nervous because of the line behind them. I tell them not to worry, they were there first. I wouldn't care if they stood there and bought the who store one piece at a time. They were there first.

I hate when clerks give me that look, but on one incident it went way too far.

As I was purchasing my tickets, the clerk told me that I was wasting my money, and I told him to mind his own business. I guess he woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day.

He took out a 12 guage sawed off shot gun and shot me square in the middle of my forehead, just 2 inches away. Thank God the pellets missed my brain. Unfortunately my face now looks like swiss cheese.

What I've seen is: I've bought 10+, 20+ tickets of the same game, and not had a single prize, not a one. On the other hand I have a friend who bought 1 $5 Mucho Dinero in MD. 2 months ago, it had 10 x $100 prizes for a $1000 total go figure, I scratched my head and said dang! good pull.

Jarasan the funny thing about those odds. They are how many winners average over the amount of tickets printed and a lot of people think that they are if you buy 4 or 5 tickets you should have at least one winner but that is not the case. The odds are computed by the number of winning scratch-its versus how many tickets are made for that game. So you can see how you could buy $20 worth of $1 tickets and only get like 5 winning tickets.-weshar75

The odds on the back of these things say like 1 : 4.62 has a prize, yeah right, I've bought 10 - 20 tickets of the same game purporting these odds, and got a goose egg on more than one occasion, testing the validity of the odds. This I have seen, in one particular On the Run, the people working the registers and lottery scratching away at a particular game. Another thing they do is when there is a promotion on package or something like that they take all the sticky things that are on the packages, customers don't get to play. This place is the exception to the rule in the area I'm in, but when you mentioned it, it struck a chord, it never dawned on me since I don't play scratchies often, what they were up to.

Why don't you try it the next time you play the game ..? Ask the people, if you were going to spend $10.. what would you choose..

I agree. I hold a door open for anyone and I react the same way if they give me a dirty look. But because I don't want or expect someone's money doesn't mean I think I'm better than them. I'm not better than anyone and they are not better than me.

I don't think the Lottery would care one way or the other...

They have to pay out $500 for a winning number.. So why would they care if $450 went to the person buying it and $50 to the clerk..

I have received tips from people who pick their own rolls to buy from.

If I am off a few days in a row and know nothing about the games, I will tell the regulars I have no clue to what is due to hit...

There seems to be a little misunderstanding here. If Rick is self-employed and is doing his job, then he doesn't expect a tip. You don't tip your doctor or your accountant. They all provide a service for a fee. A waitress, on the other hand, depends on tips to make a living. There's a difference. I always would tip a valet who parked my car. wow what the hey. if i give the clerk a tip about a number will the clerk give me a dime i don't think so. i don't see where anyone is indebted to the clerk unless you and the clerk are good buds/close friends. At most many clerks are causal acquaintances.

As for tipping for a service not lottery related if i get fast prompt courteous service for something i might slip the person a fiver especially if the person is a worker. never tip the owner for service it's bad etiquette.

They must be European. Anyone who works in service I believe is eligible for a tip, especially if they don't own the business providing the service, like hotels, tire changers, valets, clerks, moving people, the trashmen at Christmas, the mailman, bartenders, your hair person, the paperboy, the babysitter etc. you know what minimum wage is, it is bad, I prefer to tip than pay taxes, at least I know where my darn money is going! Those are my kind of guys. I've had many people trying to shove $20 into my shirt pocket and have refused until sometimes they are so insistent that I would be insulting them if I continued refusing. Either way the customer is always right and not beholden for the services you render.

I wouldn't expect it or accept it and my level of service and response would be exactly the same as the next person.

Customer service should apply equally to all whether they tip you or not (again, with the exception of wait-service employees whose income depend on tips).

This is so unbelievable that the clerk didn't want to run the playslips.. I am glad to see someone coming with the slips filled out to run.. A lot of our customers expect you to run certain numbers for them without the slip..That is time consuming.. however, no problem for those tippers.. lol..

Oh everyone I wait on gets service.. Just not tips... Only the tippers get the tips.. Why would I give tips to the nontippers.. That would be crazy..

Some clerks may even keep the tips to themselves and play what is due to hit and let someone else get it ripe for them.. That is dishonest..

I dont scratch on the job.. (However, I am not an everyday scratcher.. they are for suckers to play daily.. I only play 2-3 times a month..

You come into store.. You are a nontipper.. I ask , May I help you? You tell me what you want.. pay and leave.. lose or win.. I say nothing about the games.

You come into the store.. You are a known tipper, I ask, What will it be? The Jumbos have been hit... and the Fast Fifties are ripe..? You tell me which... I give to you.. You win, you tip for the tip... All fair.. Nothing dishonest there..

I have to agree. I've never heard of such a thing. If I thought a store was expecting kickbacks from my wins I wouldn't play there.

If I have to unclog someone's toilet, I'm not expecting a tip. It's part of my job. Waitresses should be tipped because they are making half (or less) of minimum wage.

I know certain store clerks that will tell me what is hot and what is not regarding scratchers.

I have a habit of tipping them at least a $5 or $10 depending on the win.

They appreciate it as much as I appreciated their tips

my answer is YES.i had a feeling just by the way a clerk would watch me walk up with a play slip that before i got to the counter i knew by the look i got weather or not they would run my play slip.sometimes i would get excuses like the machine is down,etc,etc. so one day i casually asked for the manager.when the manager came to the front i told her that the clerk was telling me the machine was down every day around four in the afternoon when i came in and that i was going to call the lottery co... Where I work, we have a great repore with our customers too. We share numbers, and discuss ideas. These people are great tippers too.

Those who don't tip are still in process of learning how to win.. lol... Like you said, money is a powerful motivator. I only tip 10 percent of what is cashed in.. example.. If I win $500 on a st.. They want to know what I'm playing, I can run my own tickets, and they are always extra nice, 'cause they get tipped on anything over a couple hundred. Money is a powerful motivator. They love to win just like the customers, I gave one of the clerks I see in the morning a pick 4 for the MD day draw 2 weeks ago, he won $700.00, high fives, he wanted my phone number, when I came in for the next day draw. DoubleDown.. I congratulated you on your win, and did not call you a sucker. I just said scratch off games are sucker's game.

I scratch 2 or 3 five dollar tickets a month for the fun of it.. I have done well at times.. and then lost my $5.. no big deal.. I dont consider myself a sucker.. but someone who does get a kick out a twice a month run at a sucker's game..
