I don't know. I was really just making an educated guess. Maybe that was the figure of all of the countries combined, maybe I added a digit somewhere in my calculation, I really don't know.

JimmySand9...so I understand you correctly, you said England put in over $15 million (US) into a jackpot. Was that for one week? Was that equal to 11% of the sales for that time period?

If so, the following occured based on US Dollars:

Ticket Sales $135 million

Tickets Sold 67.5 million

Am I in the ballpark with these figures

Given a player base of 50 million people more than Mega Millions, I'm not surprised that the rolls are bigger.

Among the Euro Millions jurisdictions, there are 210,688,512 people. Add that to the ability to buy tickets online in some countries, lower age expectations (at least in the UK), and a 2 euro ticket price, chances are there is probably more money to be given away, even though only 11% of sales goes to the jackpot (By comparison, Powerball puts 32% in the jackpot). Here is the estimated population breakdown of the participating EM countries.

France: 60,876,136

England: 50,431,700

Spain: 40,397,842

Belgium: 10,379,067

Luxembourg: 474,413

Switzerland: 7,523,934

Portugal: 10,605,870

Ireland: 4,062,235

Austria: 8,192,880

Total: 192,944,077

So I guess the player base is larger than even MM. Yet its quite astounding how often it rolls, even with such a low odds to player base ratio. The od... [ More ]

Its been a long time since I've posted. But I've been checking the forums regularly and I didn't see anyone discussing this topic so I decided to post it.

How does Euro Millions do it? From the beginning of the jackpot run, it starts rolling around $13 million (cash) dollars. It also has a much higher starting jackpot compared to PB and MM.
