I'm sure it's done by some, and I'm sure that it draws some attention from the eye in the sky, but as far as being able to determine if a machine is about to pay off-

You have the same luck flipping a coin- 50/ 50.

By dowsing, do you mean using some sort of object to lead you to the right machine? I have tried a pendulum once. But it didn't help. Doesn't mean I don't believe something like this can be done. I was just afraid I'd get too many strange looks and draw attention to myself. Have never seen anyone else try it but I'm sure it must be done.
