I am very familiar on how scratch tickets work in Ontario. To validate a scratch ticket, the clerk needs to also enter a 4 digit code that appears under the latex.

Now I am also familiar with the current scandal in Ontario and by no means am I trying to defend the Ontario Lottery Gaming Corporation or store clerks. There is a strong basis to the claims that players are being defrauded. The most common way clerks are defrauding players is by making very small scratch marks on the tickets to

scratch tickets have to be activated by scanning before putting into displayed case..

To check a ticket to see if it is a winner, one has to scan code on back and punch in number from front. However, the number on front has to be scratched off before viewing. There forth... never buy a scratch off where the code on front was scratched off..

Thought I'd post what I saw the other day. It shocked me, but in light of recent events it made things all to clear.
