It looks like I may do a stratified form design with 3 new different screen sizes and 1 old backward compatible design.

Level 0 - 640 x 480 - backward compatible startup, original features.

Level 1 - 800 x 600 - normal startup size, new basic features.

Level 2 - 1024 x 768 - maximum window size, added wheel info.

Level 3 - 1280 x 1024 - maximum window size, added graphic info.

The major problem with 3200x2400 is that you would have a very hard time finding a video card to output that resolution.

It's hard enough to find one that can output my resolution (2560 x 1600) -- it requires a card that supports dual-link DVI -- and 2560 x 1600 is the highest resolution that the current slate of dual-link DVI cards go.

1600x1200 at home, 1280x1024 on the road. I'm disappointed with the flatscreens offering less than my current home CRTs. Of course, if I had ever wanted to go hog wild, I once saw a 31 CRT offering 3200x2400..... the dreams, the dreams - sigh.....

Great feedback everyone. I suspected the monitor setting sizes were getting bigger. It's looking like about 90% for 800 x 600 and above; 70% for 1024 x 768 and above. Also, looks like there are a few of us still chiseling out images at the etch-a-sketch setting. I hope this helps other programmers as well. I recommend 1024x768. This way on bigger screens it leaves room outside the window and it would run on most systems. I don't know anyone who doesn't have at least that size. If they have smaller it means they may have a very old computer. Can the prg. run on such computers

I'd put the emphasis on justxploring's answer. Monitors are pretty inexpensive now, but there are still plenty of people using 15 inch monitors at 800 by 600, and scrolling horizontally is a pain, so my opinion would be to not go any wider than necessary to display the information. If you've got an image or a table that needs to be more than 800 pixels wide some people will just have to deal with the horizontal scrolling. Dell 30 widescreen. It's actually much better than the Apple (I looked at both, and my old one was an Apple 23 ).

My desktop, believe it or not, has a 14 monitor...really old but not bad for my backup computer.

KyMystikal - I liked my desktop a lot better as far as its design goes, but it was outdated and I upgraded as much as I could. I had to get a laptop for a job, and buying 2 computers was out of my budget. My laptop is okay and it's convenient to shlep around, but dollar for dollar, the desktops I saw were a better value...faster processors, many more USB ports, better speakers, more RAM, etc.... I voted incorrectly. I just looked it up and it's 1024 x 768. (thought it was 1280) I have a laptop with a 15 screen.

I'm thinking about changing the startup form size for JADE LSG.

I'm just wondering what kind of screen sizes are being used.

Right now, JADE LSG opens at 640 x 480.
