When I lived in MA, the same thing happened in RI....always huge lines. People used to come to MA from RI on Saturdays and sell the $1.00 tickets for $5.00. Yes, I bought them

I completely agree. The first store on US Route 1 in CT, just over the border from NY, has lines stretching out to the road, 40-50 people, when other stores down side streets have no business.

Precisely.

Before they had PB here, there was a place right across the river in Iowa that was jammed all the time - you usually could not get near it, and the line went out the door, but a kwikie-mart precisely TWO BLOCKS NORTH of it had almost NO business - because it wasn't on the main drag.

And as soon as we got PB, that one place everyone went to in Iowa closed down within a month.

I've heard of stores printing extra tickets and selling them to people still on line after sales stopped. If th ejackpot is big plenty of people who didn't buy earlier will be happy to take pot luck from a bag full of tickets. As long as the winning numbers still haven't been drawn those tickets have just as much chance as a QP that's printed right in front of you.

That's probably true, I remembered years ago when the PowerBall and BigGame jackpots were $150M+ TV stations in Columbus would send news teams to Indiana and Michigan to do stories about the buying frenzies and now they don't even do a story when the local MM jackpot is $200M. Maybe these lotteries should start making their own news stories and giving them to the the TV stations to run. I hear other group that want their stories in the news are doing that.

yeah,think they were in their 80's,happened here in a million dollar mega bucks,elderly woman in 80's bought a mistake.i think the elderly have done that for many years.

No short lines here - in fact, quite the opposite, folks here have told me they have never seen so many buyers as last week - 'upscale' people that NEVER waste money on tickets were buying them.

One reason for shorter lines is more states participating and less hype. Used to be a 150M jackpot would be cross-country headlines, now you might not know about it until you hear someone won. One reason for some long lines is convenience store owners in non-PB states would buy loads of them to sell at double price back home. Use to be Indiana stores along the Ohio boarders did that too anticipating a rush when PB jackpot was $120M+ but lately when I've bought PB tickets in Indiana there aren't any lines. Either Ohioans stopped buying PB tickets in favor of the local MM game or started traveling farther inland to buy their tickets.

I buy mistake tickets; sometimes I'll even ask if there are any. Usually you can see them just laying near the play slip machine. I've had a few wins, nothing too big, but you never know.

Yes, I read the story on the Missouri Lottery website.

Actually, the store had printed out some quickpicks in advance for the rush...Mr. Wilson took one of them and won with it.

Seems like a good family... They did get legal / financial advice first, which was very prudent.

I just read on the Missouri lottery websit that he stopped in the store asked for $5 worth of quick pics and the store clerk talked him into one of the mistakes he had printed out earlier......if thats true there are probably a few people kicking themselves.....
