Good info Rjoh!, in P3 50cents for every $1 spent is the odds factor stacked against anyone who places the game and the payout is out is 500 for a $1 bet with 1000 #s.... If the payout is 600 for a exact hit, then it would be 60cents for every $1, now it is probable on a given day that a $100 winner is equivalent to 199 players who got nothing.

I just look at the annual reports for a few lotteries and they usually show the amount of sales and the amount paid out in prizes. They usually show for every $1 in sales 40 to 60 was paid out in prizes in all the lotteries, from P3 on up. Either every player got ~ 50 back for every $1 spent or for every player that won $100 there were 199 players who got nothing. It gets even worst when you try to figure the number of losers it takes to pay out a million dollar jackpot.

Hypersoniq Rjoh, I will have to agree to disagree on this for sure.....Each game type have something in common. It a game of numbers with odds, you can win at each and be profitable. They all have advantages and disadvantages. It only about perspective that gives your potential for success in either game. 38 years is a long time to wait for that one win that will put you over the top, when tomorrow is not promised to any of us. You got to play the odds to be successful in any game, you will ne... [ More ]

It's doubtful if any player comes out ahead in any lottery game unless he wins the jackpot and if he's playing the pick3 games then that is doubtful too. He might come out ahead winning second prize in the PowerBall or MegaMillions games but less than 1% of the players win those prizes.

Thanks WSN1!

Justxploring

I also think many people (including me) will treat a winning ticket like coins in a slot machine. You know how people get excited when the quarters come flying out and they plug them back in, hoping to win more?

Doesn't it make you wonder when someone puts $1.25 in quarters or $5 in dollars in a video poker machine, gets a pair of jacks, and shouts, I won! I won! - as they get credited exactly what they just put in.

I guessed 1% before I even read the other posts. I wanted to check 3% (trying to be a little more optimistic!) but I see lots of people sitting on the benches outside of the markets scratching their tickets, and then they scratch their heads in frustration. Rarely do I see someone walking away with a wad of cash, although I have seen winners at the counter. Last week a woman handed a lottery ticket to a clerk and got $75. That's happened to me too, but only 3 times in over 12 years! So when... [ More ]

Hmmm, interesting. My hunch has always been 3-5%, I think some people dont like to broadcast it and some that do may down play it a bit either way, for a significant profit. However, a min to a max profit, it could be a little more, like 10-15%. Any other thoughts!

dK
